I recently bought my truck and gave it a tune up. Before I replaced the air filter with a factor Dodge (Cost too much) I noticed the vacum gauge was at about 7 inches of Mercury (correct term?). I thought this was just due to a filled up air filter. The on that was in there was a K&N I tossed it because I didn't feel good about not being the one who had maintained it. Anyway back to the story, with a new "Dodge" filter it still draws down after a "WOT" wide open throttle movement. Is this normal I checked for restriction and none found. Sorry about the long post after being a mechanic for a few years I think you need all the facts to make a call!!:p

Kroaden

Mine does that too. I have the K&N filter that I installed at about 30,000 miles. The filter minder never moved with the stock filter or the K&N until I installed the TST kit which greatly increased my boost. I already had the boost and egt guages when stock so I was able to compare the temps and boost readings before and after the Bombing. Long story short, anytime I floor it the filterminder goes to half mast, and stays there until I reset it. I was wondering if I tossed the K&N and went back to the stock airfilter if it would still do this. Apparently it does. I was also told by my dealer when the truck was still new that thoes things wernt accurate and didnt work anyway. (they were trying to sell me a new filter). Good luck with the truck, mine has 119,00 miles on it and I love it.

David,

I have noticed the same effects in my truck, a 99 24V AT. Have you ever seen the filterminder draw down to less than half?

I have a Fleetguard filter in the box. No change in movement with only the Puck. I added injectors and that is when she began to move (both the minder and the truck).

There IS a restriction! DC put it there!

The duct between the fender and the air box is the restriction. Remove it and your filter minder shouldn't move anymore.

The filter minder is so simple that it would need to be cracked to not work. It measures inches of water which is the amount of vacuum required to raise a column of water 1 inch. Pulling a 26k load with my 3500 stock w/ stock filter I could pull the minder all the way down. With a K&N it didn't pull down at all until I added a Banks kit, then it pulled about half way down. Installed a Physcotty and moved the minder on to it, now it's back to not pulling down at all.

Filter Minder

Glad I read these posts - I thought that my truck was the only one that was pulling the filter minder half way down when I got on it a little. I have the stock filter set up and plan on sticking with it.

Mine never moved no matter how dirty it was until I installed the 370 injectors and then 1 full throttle blast would peg it. Your truck may be modified for more fuel and thats why its moving the minder.

Mine used to pull down also with stock filter till I drilled out all three sides of the filter box(bottom). This greatly improved airflow for the stock filter. Switched to K+N and never pulled down again, even with Scheid pump work and new plate.

Hope this helps.

minder again

mine would do this when i started to boom, even with the k&n, then i read the posts on the neck between the filter box and fender, i did'nt remove it, i just cut with a knife on the backside, bottom, and top in the area where it goes through the body to the outside to the fender opening or do like extrem 1 says. -or- just go and get a BHAF and install it. there are #s in the posts, just surech, you'll get plenty of air. took mine out, found snow on top of it the other day. just my pennys worth

It sounds to me like some of these minders are sticking when new... and then once enough pressure is applied, move and then continue working from that point on... . Mine has NEVER moved...

42K miles changed filter just recently... old one looked pretty well dirtied up... Have towed very hard once or twice and have never seen it even budge.

my minder never moved until i started to add more hp, then i just kept up with what was being done on the web sit and what was being talked about in the tdr. tried some of the suggested in's and out's. would like to do a moderate rpm increase and timeing but my truck runs well and does a good job towing with what i have done. my pennys worth

My minder has never moved very much from original stock setup to current conditions: #6 tst, 215 injectors, ventilated airbox, K&N air filter (no, I have never found any dust or dirt inside the downstream part of the intake).
