Saw an AFE cone filter that clamps on like our inlet hose does to the turbo. It is available in 3" 3. 5" or 4" dia. outlets. I have a stock HY35 (I think). My truck is a 99' auto. What are some of your opinions on this set up and what size will I need? Is this putting an oiled filter to close to the turbo? I think I have seen a picture on here of someone who runs one of these already. Thanks.

Nobody Knows?

Over 80 people have read this and nobody has an opinion. I need some advice, my credit card needs using. :D

I haven't seen the setup you speak of but it sure seems that the filter would get awfully hot clamped right to the turbo. I'd stick to it on the end of the hose.

One of the benefits of the afe filter is that it flows cool air. I doubt you will be able to pull cool air with the filter right next to the turbo. I'd keep it at the end of the hose, personally.

I have an AFE filter on the end of my OEM inlet hose, not the full MegaCannon kit, just the filter. Since I didn't get the full kit, I also didn't get the adapter that you need to connect the AFE to the hose, as the AFS inlet is ~4 1/2" and the inside diameter of the OEM inlet hose is ~3 1/2". So, I discovered that all you need is a short section of 3" black ABS pipe, a short section of 4" black ABS pipe and a 3" x 4" adapter. Perfect fit now :D

This is a very popular way to do it on turbo'd cars (i. e. the supra) i will dig up a pic of what i believe you are talking about.

I believe I have seen several of the twin turbo setups using a filter clamped directly to the turbo inlet. If you do a search on twins there are pictures on one or two of the posts. The only disadvantage I see is that because you would be drawing in air a little closer to the motor, that the air may be a bit warmer.
