Air filter?

I am running the stock air box and the home depot mod, with a 4" filter. I took it out the other day and there is a slight oily residue on the filter side (outside). It has only been in for two or three weeks. Anyone have any ideas where it is coming from?

Haha, you have a good point. I suppose it's normal if others are seeing the same thing?

Road film, I think. The same gook that builds up on semi truck frames, drive axles and such when there are no oil leaks present. We don't get it too bad up here as the rain, snow and road treatment chemicals keep the road scrubbed off pretty good.

No kidding, if one ever takes out their HVAC fan (which is white) they would notice the same stuff all over it.

Mine was thoroughly blackened @ 16K. NAPA had a minor sale on the Wix 4" so I changed it this morning.
