I made my own by installing an AFE stock replacement filter in the stock airbox, removing the airbox to inner fender snorkle and drilling four 1" holes in the bottom of the airbox. Flows great and the turbo can be heard singing in full song
There is always the BHAF, with a heat shield (Mallory Mount) all can be had for less than $100. I got my shield from TDR member Jason Boesl, I don't know if he is still making them, but its worth investigating.
I will be upgrading from a K&N to a BHAF (Napa 2790). Is the heat shield beneficial in any way. Does is make a difference? Any leads for a low cost shield? Any takers on a used K&N filter?
Don't know of any used shields, you could check the classifieds or try to find out if Jason Boesl is still making them. Benefits: I figure the shield reflects some of the heat radiating off of the turbo and exhaust, plus makes a nice way to mount the BHAF. Other folks have made their own shields from stove pipe etc...
