One more filter question. I did go to the Geno's Garage site and looked first. None are listed for the '03. It is my impression that the air filters for the '03 are different from the '01's. I just bought a K&N for my '01 and would like to keep it if it fits the '03. Any postitive or negitive thoughts on K&N filters??

It's different for 03. I think were all just waiting for AFE or K&N to come out with something. So far the only place I know of to get a new one is the dealer and they want something like $40 !!!

Fleetguard may have them. I bought air filters for my '96 at the Cummins dealer for less money than at the Dodge parts department. They also seemed less restrictive than the Mopar version.

THE '03 AIR FILTER IS OVER 19 SQ IN SMALLER THAN PREVIOUS YEARS. OLD ONES WILL NOT FIT. AND THE AIR FLOW IS MUCH HIGHER ON THE '03. AFTER MARKET IS HAVING TROUBLE MATCHING UP. TBOB

I was on the Cummins site a week ago and they are stating that they DO NOT recommend aftermartet filters like K&N:confused:

I am a big user of K&N filters and was boogled by their statment?

Thay also stated that aftermarket filters like K&N do not properly filter out dirt as reccomended by cummins?

I am willing to hear what others think of their statement.

What about the Amsoil oil coated foam filters? Is anyone using them that is willing to give an opinion?

I had Amsoil filters on my other trucks. Son has one on his 99(120,000+). We have had no problems with them. Just clean em once a year and re-oil. And they don't have one out yet for the 03 cause it is smaller:mad:

Gauze and Foam filters

I've run both gauze based air filters and foam filters on my ATVs for years. Thanks DBVZ for mentioning the Amzoil FOAM filters. I forgot all about them.

I ride my quads on very dusty or very fine sand trail settings and I've often wondered about which filter does best under these conditions. I've heard the advertizing hype. When both types of filters are installed properly, I have never noticed any dust/sand (via eye ball and finger inspection) particles in the throats of the carbs. However, it seems that the gauze at the edges of the folds on the pleats deteriorate. I've often wondered if this allowed material to get through.

My foam filters are dual stage and I am now leaning a bit more towards them. I wonder if Fleetguard does not recommend an alternative medium these because some people do not know how to maintain them properly, like use a ton of oil on them after they are cleaned or clean them properly so that they are not damaged?? I know there are some goons out there who wash them improperly and use motor oil on them or no oil at all.

TESTED AMSOIL AIR FILTER ON '03. I MADE ONE TO FIT FOR TESTING. IT DOES NOT FLOW ENOUGH AIR FOR '03. THE SAME FILTER WORKED FINE ON BOMBED '99. ON THE '03 FILTER MINDER SHOWED 65%. I CALLED AMSOIL, ALL THEY SAID WAS, WE ARE WORKING ON IT. TBOB
