 I have a um, er, uh banks system on my truck. The air filter that came with it is k&m (or is it k&n)that fits in the stock filter housing. Should I be using this filter or am I better off to go back to the stock filter for the time being and upgrade to a full replacement system later. Just curious I dont want to hurt my motor over using a insufficient filter.

For myself I would go with a stock filter or if going modified a BHAF. I just don't care for the oil'd filters, but that's JMO. :D

yeah, but are some filters close to no filter. I have seen some posts on tdr that say stay away from k&n filters. Id rather ruin a motor with bombs than with a crap *** air filter! ;)

I'm sure there are several that run the K&N filters, and not had problems. As far as some filters close to no filter I don't know about that other than any filter would be better than nothing at all to me also.

I myself do not want one I have to clean, and also take a chance of over oiling or under oiling, to much hassle for me. I believe myself that a paper filter does have better filteration. Do some more reserach on the subject and then decide for yourself what's best for you. When I mod the air intake it will be with a BHAF if I do it at all.

The K&N you have is a so called high flow performance element usually associated with street use only, if thats where you use your truck it will be just fine. The AFE Pro-Guard 7 drop ins offer much better filtration for a wider variety of usage, I run the AFE in my 05.

You should check out Amsoils web site, look until you find the redirect to air filter testing. Course they are pimpin their products however tests on K&N and others is very interesting, you may want another air filter.

I run the BHAF myself, but I hear (and seen test data from independent) AFE is the way to go if ya just gotta have layered guaze.

With the BHAF setup you know your protected, but some say it doesn't flow as well. I don't know?

I was told by the Shop Foreman at Cummins Southwest in Albuquerque, after he noticed that I was using a K&N air filter on my 95, that Cummins did not recommend such filters. He said that the paper equal to the original equipped was better. I have not yet changed the filter on my 05, but will most likely stay with original equip. Grizzly

If you want alot of air flow paper isnt going to cut it IMO.

I have run the AFE filters for the last 3 years with no ill results or effects.

macdaddy I figured out how to download pic's from my computer. Trick is to reduce them to the size TDR can live with. Grizzly :-laf
