Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Air Filters

Whats the best air filter??? I have the K&N drop in, is there a better one out there??? I think I have seen some that connect directly to the turbo.

There are several others out there. The BHAF, (big honkin' air filter), can be picked up at several places, including NAPA. The pschotty (sp?) I and II, and the AFE mega-cannon, which is what I'm running. They all flow lots of air. The AFE is similar to the K&N, in that it needs cleaned and oiled occasionally. The BHAF just gets replaced when it's due, and is a lot less expensive. Not sure about the scotty's. K&N also makes a bigger, cone-type, also, if I remember correctly. Can't say what the best is, but I like my AFE. It replaced my K&N drop-in, and now I can definitely hear the turbo spool up.

I use the K&N that fits in the stock air intake. Works great. Gives you alot more air than the stock filter offered at the dealer.

My truck & my K&N, are going on 200k now. Both doing fine. I've serviced it maybe 5 times. I've never seen any dirt/oil down stream of the filter yet. I like an oiled filter during dry dusty, gravel road conditions. We've had a 3 year drought going in eastern Kansas, & it picks up it's fair share of dirt, even on the highway. I'd hate to guess how many cubic feet of air my K&N has processed over the years. Can I hear the turbo? U-bet!

I have a kn dropin in one truck and a kn air charger in the other. But if I was to do it again I would get a AFE. It is a better built unit

I have used most of the air filters out there and I can say that the AFE is the highest quality unit available. Many other companies are using the AFE elements in their own design housings. The best news is there maybe a new bigger and better AFE system just around the corner for the extremist in the group.

6 inch diameter inlet. Huge!!!
