2003 stock turbo

I have a flow through exhaust from the kitty back, bought an amsoil replacement air filter, cut the 4" tube in the bottom of the air box and ran it just behind the front bumper, cut an additional 4" hole in the front section of the air box.

My question, I am running a edge juice and pulling a 40' trailer, egt's peak out quickly, what's next? should I go for a AFE filter, will this lower my egt's enough ? I did'nt seem to have as much of a problem with my '03 although I ran 4" pipe to a flow through exhaust with no catilitic convertor and an AFE on that truck.

Using a cool blue tube dropped my EGT and made the turbo spool surprisingly fast. Still stock air box but the mess of intake piping feeding the turbo is now one smooth tube (no more tunnel of baffles and cheese grates). Diesel Performance Products sells them; same folks that do the TAG (although I don't have a TAG). Under normal cruise conditions I think my EGT is down atleast 100 degrees; haven't towed with it yet. I think EGT is down because I'm drawing more air and easily maintaining more boost. I suspect EGT when pulling a hill with a trailer will be nearly unchanged since max will still be max.

I pulled that cheesey thing out of my intake as soon as I got the truck, also pulled the silencer ring off. My egt's go up really quick on this truck, to point that it seems almost ponitless to up grade to an edge box since I can't use the power because of the egt limits. I'm not a rich guy and don't want to go with bigger turbos and all that stuff. I'm still wondering if the AFE filter is worht the upgrade, $450 bucks is a bit for my pockets. I work my trucks pretty hard and am forced to trade in every two years. I have been finding out that my upgrades are just going with my trade ins so I'm trying to limit the upgrading as much as I can but still trying to get the best bang for the buck.

look into building yourself a BHAF then... . that is going to be yoru best bet. also run the 4 inch tube from behind the bumper right up to the filter, will add a small bit of cool air...

IF your using the edge Juice and pulling a 40 ft trailer, you are going to have HIGH EGT'S!

Sure you can buy air filters that may "flow" more air, but be carefull! Some of those high flow filters don't filter out the dirt very well! I have the juice with attitude, and I can certainly get the EGT's up pretty fast! When I pull I turn the juice OFF! Its not worth burning up an engine!

I can't disagree with you, I have the amsoil replacement filter in there now. I used an AFE on my last truck ('03) and it worked well. I ran a TST box on 2-3 when towing. I could set it and it would shut down at 1300 degrees. The Edge box will warn you at the high setting but not shut down like the TST does, at least that is my experience. I'm not as confident running the Edge as I was with running the TST at this point. I am also noticing higher Egt's with the Edge on this box as the TST on my last truck. I'm trying to figure if that's from the air filter difference and the fact that I eleiminated the kitty on the last truck or if that's just a minor difference and most of my issue is with the Edge box as compared to the TST box on my last truck.
