I have mounted my twin aur horns, but now trying to decide if my compressor for the air bags will work as well for the air horns. Does anyone else run their air horns off the air bag compressor?

If the air bag system has a tank then it should work for the horns, at least for a couple of seconds. The issue you will have is how much of a blast you can get out of your system before the pressurized air is depleated. At first I was using a small tank for JCWhitney that held about 1/2 gallon and would give me about a 5 second blast before running out of steam.

I'm not too familiar with the different kinds of air bag systems out there, mine just have tire type fittings and get aired up that way, they didn't even come with a compressor. If your system doesn't have a tank then at the least you would have to add one, you won't be able to run the horns directly from the compressor.

Good Luck,

Mike

I have the Firestone air bags with the on board compressor and a small air tank that looks like it might hold about a gallon or so.

Since you have a tank all you need is to 'tee' off it so you can mount an electric solenoid valve to feed the horns. Doing this you should have air to blast the horns, but I don't know how long of a blast you will get. I think I had about the same volume of air (tank was about 8"x5") and could get about a five second blast from my grover before the sound started to get kinda embarrassing.

What psi are you running in your tank? If I recall correctly my system turns on at 110 and off at 125.

Not sure I follow you, but if you're implying that the air tank might rupture in a crash I suppose that's true. I'd personally worry more about the fact that if you are blowing the horn at the moment of impact you will be pushing down right on top of an explosive charge mounted nicely in the steering wheel.

I have the small air tank (1 gal) and air bags on my Jeep. It works fine if I don't lay on the air horn (30 sec). When the alarm goes off the air horns last about a minute and a half of beep with the regular horn.

I have a 5 gallon tank on my truck. It just takes a long ttime for the compressor to fill it.
