I see the nice horns are $250 - $300 and up. Gives horns, tank, compressor and all sorts of stuff. 133 db and instant blast. Kinda pricy though.

Looking at some of those at the JCwhithey site that are $40 - $70 range. Comes with electric compressor, 115-118db. My impression is they have delay while the compressor builds air pressure.

So my question is, anybody try the cheap $70 model. How to they sound, how long is the compressor delay?

Thanks

I bought a set of the $40 JCWhitneys with the small compressor that powers the air horns (plastic) real time. The compressor went bad after about 18 months. I broke down last week and bought a set of the Hadleys ($240 with tank and compressor) from JCWhitney. Haven't installed them yet but I fired them off yestereday on the shop compressor. Don't waste your money on the $40 plastic ones. The wife came out to the shop and told me to NOT install the Hadley's on the truck. Too loud; too much like a semi. They will be installed this week!!! They ARE the right ones.

I chose the Grover's over the Hadleys. I listened to both and the Hadleys were a little louder than the Grovers but were higher pitched. The Grovers sound more like the OTR horns.

I dont know about the heart attack, but there is this one gal that lives near by and has cut me off several times getting to the freeway. I have observed she likes her morning latte. I figure one day she will lift up that latte up to sip on it and I am gonna let it rip.

So where is the best place to get the Grovers? I hope santa goes for this.

I'm not familiar with the Grover set up. I have the Hadleys. I'm happy with the set up over all, but I was real disappointed with the tiny little tank that came with it. Particularly since the first one leaked! Its so small you only have enough air for a couple of short blasts. There are larger tanks available from internet sites (don't have them off hand). You don't need a huge one, but you'll want a bigger one.

The tank that comes with the Hadleys is like maybe a half gallon. I found a 1-1/2 gallon one for about $40 that works nice for me. Maybe you can scavenge one from someplace. Don't go too big or you'll have to get a bigger compressor.

Grover

Got the Grover. Love the sound over the Hadleys. don't know how many gal. tank I have but it's enough for several heart stopping blasts  :D . Only problem is the preasure switch died twice:mad:  So now I'm hornless until the replacement switch comes:(

I have a 26 inch long Hadley with 5 inch bell. Sound is loud, heavy and deep. I just use a 7 1/2 gal compressed air tank. Fill it to 125 psi and you can give at least 20 2 second blasts on it before pressure drops to just over 100. It is still plenty loud at even 80 psi. No compressor needed this way. You can fill the tank at a service station or at home if you have a air compressor.

I pulled one of these, a few months ago. I was in the left turn lane, behind some little Chevette thingy. Arrow turned green, and he sat there, picking his nose. I gave him a good blast from my Grovers (mounted right under the deer strainer), just to motivate him a little.

There was a gal in a minivan in the other lane, with her open window right next to my front bumper. I saw the cupfull of Starbuck's as it splattered all over her headliner. I thought she was going to come out the window, trying to flip me off with every appendage.

Get the REAL horns

You went out and bought yourself a real truck, get some real horns :D

Even if you have to wait a little while to save the money it WILL be worth it, trust me.
