Has anyone with the factory alarm installed the Grover or Hadley airhorns only to scare the bee-jesus out of yourselves when you armed the alarm system of your truck (expecting that quick beep of your horn to indicate it's armed)?!?

I'm expecting my horn system anyday and do want to have it hooked up to my factory horn button. Has anyone put in a 3 position toggle switch to have it work either on it's own button, the factory horn button or off altogether? I'm looking for some ideas and/or examples. Thanks!

Nuthin to really say about your question but I must say that was a hilarious visual I got when you posted this post.

I never even thought about that.

I would love to see it happen the first time to someone I bet the look would be priceless.

There is a way to disable the horn chirp function when arming. If you want to know how to turn it off let me know and I will look it up in the service manual.

Scooby,

When I installed my Grover's several months ago I temporarily removed a wire from one of the factory horns and wired it to the solenoid supplied by Grover. The slight pulse when arming the alarm system would not release enough air to sound the new horns - I only heard a sickly toot from the one factory horn. I imagine if the panic button were pressed it would be different.

I have since restored the factory horns to their original configuration and wired both air horn solenoid and compressor so that they are only active with the key in the run position. I now activate the Grover horns with a button on the shift lever.

I have the grover horns and I loved it the other day when my truck was at the car wash as the guy honked inside the wash to get out of the way, I think about 5 people had to run to the restroom, then another time it was at the dealer and simalar thing in the service drive the guy honked to get another vehicle out of the way as the service writer literaly fell out of his chair; it was awsome! Yes my horns chirp a sickly toot when you arm the system but it is not bad, and yes the panic button gets peoples attention like right now!

Thanks for the replies... I guess I won't have to worry about it!

I can't wait to get the horns... I would have had the perfect opportunity to use them twice today! Hee, hee... can't wait! #ad

If you check your owners manual and or service manual, you will find you can turn the Alarm/horn signal off. I did it to mine when I first got it. Being from the land of car alarm noise excess I didn't want my truck chirping at me every time I pushed the alarm buttom. Of course the horn still works in conjunction with the alarm itself.

Why not hook up the blasters and factory horns to an additional relay that is activated/deactivated by the ignition ON/OFF switch. When the engine is running, the Air horns will be activated. When the engine is off, then the factory horns are activated. When you arm your vehicle (hopefully with the engine off), the factory horns will chirp instead. You can even add a switch to set the truck in factory mode. But then again there is something funny when the unexpected user toots the horn.
