Looking to install an air horn under hood. Thinking about Hadley or Grover. Anybody tried these or something else? Any model recommendation and installation tips?

Welcome aboard. Hit the search button and enter Grover or Hadley or air horn. All kinds of info already been posted.

Got Hadleys from JC Whitney

I just ordered a set of Hadley's from JC Whitney, I think they were $249 with the standard relay (versus lanyard, which is the valve controlled by a string). Comes with compressor, tank and plumbing. I wanted to get a bigger set but we are talking $400 and up. I just mainly want to be able to be heard when I express my opinon on the expressway :D

I have Hadleys on mine. Mounted them behind the bumper to the front crossmember. Used an electric valve and wired straight to the regular horns. Work great and the openings in the bumper don't muffle the horns.

Hey Vaughn,

let me know how those go, sound, install and all that. Christmas is coming and I have to get my list ready.

Headly Bullies

Just got them, call them directly and bought it of them, they claim to have the latest ones. I'm happy with them and they're very loud. I mounted the air horns behind the bumper on left crossmember, used one predrilled hole and just drilled another. Mounted the air tank on the right crossmember behind the bumper. I removed the bracket from the compressor and clamped it on the right crossmember just below the air tank, used two radiator hose clamps and I put a piece of cut rubber hose under it for vibration.

I had the chance to hear both the Hadleys and the Grovers before I made my purchase.

The Hadleys are a little louder than the Grovers, but with a higher pitch.

The Grovers sound closer to the Big Rig horns. I went with the Grovers and wired the solenoid to my stock horn harness. Will be getting another set of larger horns and a bigger tank to give more "Sh*t of the pants" feeling. :D

hadley bullies

awesome horns!! wouldn't trade 'em for anything EXCEPT

a pair of grover stuttertone emergency horns (read: firetruck).

had a buddy help me with the install and we were very neat.

probably took us 3 hours but then we did alot of yapping and multiple coffee breaks.

air horns

just lookin in the jcwhitney catalog, found a kit made by FIAMM with dual trumpet air horns, 134db, with compressor for 22 bucks; 26 bucks for the triple trumpet model. any body tried it?? i think i may. can't lose much. 134 db is LOUD.

Where do you plan on getting the bigger tank?? I Would like to have about a two gallon tank, but haven't been able to find one. The one I have ,I made out of heavy wall aluminum pipe. It's 4"x18".

I just bought... get this... A set of freakin' TRAIN HORNS! I got them on ebay. They set me back 500 smacks but I'll tell you what - they are LOUD. I tried them out in the garage with my air compressor and it sounds just like a train is coming! My ears were almost bleeding. They are on a manifold and there are 5 horns all different lengths. Now I need to find a big air supply...

OH YEAH BABY

air horns.

bob:

jcwhitney has an airtank available "7 inches by 5 inches" for $27. you could make a bigger air tank using galvanized pipe--say 3" or 4". cut it to the length desired, thread it on both ends, cap it, then drill and tap the cap for your fitting. i've seen tube type bumpers fixed up as airtanks... ... ... btw... ... .....

www.realwheels.com has the train horn setup available for $490. three horns with measurements--18 1/2 " X 15 1/2" X 11".

TRAIN HORN

I run two sets of trainhorns one on each side, right in front of rear tires between frame and outer bed skin. Its out of the way it dont muffel and you dont get any mud or debre in them. They are the ultimate horn you will ever have, the best fit Ive found or seen , but thats my o2 . I have not put them on a decible meter. The company where i get them rates them at 150 Db each . Price around $375 plus shipping . I run a blow jax compressor 3/4 horse 180psi 4 cfm 100% duty cycle , I run 1/2 inch air line and big valves. I also run 2 semi air tanks 12gal total, they mount right under driver and pasenger seat right next two frame. I have nerf bars so you dont even see them . So if your enterested, I will be at Oct fest in Tulare 13 14 . Or you can call me at Kustom Truck 530-6741376 ask for Dennis :D :D
