It sounds like you came up with a good solution to your problem. I took another approach with mine. I had replaced my stock horns with a 3-horn set from a 1973 Buick Electra that are tuned and very loud. I left the two stock horns in place and mounted the new ones under the front of the truck. When I added my Grover air horns I activated them with a Airlift 1/2" fast air valve and a footswitch. Now I have the steering wheel for the electric horns and if needed, the airhorns can be used with my left foot. The valve I used is very fast and I can tap the switch and just get a blip out of the horns.

I found that the sound was muddied up with the stock horns combined with the new 3-horn set I installed so I unplugged the stock and left them in place. The airhorns are also tuned to each other and adding the stock horns to that may or may not sound good depending on the harmonics and tuning. You might try them alone to see if they are clearer and sound better.
