Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) air intake upgrade

I am presently pegging my 30psi boost gauge,do I really need to spend 300$ for A. F. E system If my stock box with good quality element works fine?

Are you having heat (EGT) issues? My AFE with the ProGuard 7 media I got from Rip for about $200 +-... With the exhaust your running (5") I wouldn't think it would be mandatory but your engine will breath better with more air coming in. More air in (AFE), More air out (5" exhaust)

Are you running larger than stock injectors or just the Comp? More fuel usually requires more air to effectively burn the fuel & create more power without having heat issues.

I have never understood why there is a need to spend $200 or more on an air filter. You can pick up the B. H. A. F for under $50, Cummins part# AH19037. I am in no way knocking anyone for there choice, I just don't get it. Clay is correct, more air coming in is a good thing. I noticed a definite change in response and power by adding a better free flowing filter.

I noticed a 100 degree decrease in EGT when I switced from a BHAF and straight pipe to an AFE stage 2 with the progaurd 7, and Rip's 4" exhaust.

Changing your air intake will not reduce your boost, if that is what you are asking... However with your mods, as others have already stated, it would help with the egt's ...
