JUST INSTALLED MY NEW AIR INTAKE BY STREET AND PERFORMANCE ELECTRONICS. :--) OH MY, THE DIFFERENCE THIS MADE. PREVIOUSLY TOOK OUT THE SILENCER RING, SOUNDED BETTER THEN THE INTAKE, MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. THANKS FOR THE GREAT SITE, SHANNON

How much/what does this intake system include? Is it just plumbing, or is there a new box/air filter? What type of filter does it use (paper/re-usable)?

Pictures?

David, your degree of subtlety is rivaled by my own :D .

Just got my BullyDog intake today and it's supposed to add 45 H. P. because of the way it fools the MAP sensor. It will get dyno'd next week to see if it really does.

intake

BOONSUR, the intake cost me $220. 00 and it included the pipe between the two rubber elbows, and the mount for the K N filter which was included. I will try to get pics tommorrow, it started raining.

Prairie Dog ,what MAP sensor?? I thought these things did not have such a P. O. S. on our beloved little Cummins? And don't forget to post those dyno results now!!

The 2003 has a sensor on the airbox that many have mistakenly identified as a Mass Air Flow sensor. This is actually an IAT and Atmospheric Pressure sensor (in essence, the exact same critter as the MAP sensor in the intake manifold). Pre-03 trucks used a reading off the MAP sensor (at startup only) to determine elevation and adjust fueling levels and timing to compensate for altitude. The problem with that is if you start out at 11,000ft and drive until you're down to 3000 feet, the initial timing and fueling adjustments are invalid. 2003 trucks now use the IAT/AP sensor to dynamically adjust timing/fueling levels as you drive. As we've been developing the Ram Air III for the 2003, we've noticed that increasing air flow past the sensor appears to fool it into believing that the truck is operating at a different elevation than it is (I suspect it thinks its at a lower elevation), and as such, fueling (and power) is increased. We haven't seen 50 HP as Bully Dog claims. Its more in the realm of 20 HP, and I suspect that once a truck has a true timing/fueling box on it, this slight increase will be offset by power gains through the box.

I'm curious too as I'll be comparing it to my AFE. I have an appointment on tuesday night with the dyno so I'll be sure to post a graph of the run soon after. If anybody wants to see it in action, I'll be at Dyno-Mite diesel in Monroe Wa at 5:00 PM.
