check this out. at 1800 rpm, and up til 2000 rpm, I hear a noticeable air noise. I have BHAF, RV 275 INJ, 4" Magnflow exh and Edge eZ. Noise sounds like it s coming from the air filter area. I replaced BHAF with stock fiter and still there. Mechanic said not bearing or gear noise, but air noise. Still can't locate it. All fittings(air) checked and tight. also, just replaced turbo about 2 months ago. any ideas? thanks to all.

If it's the stock turbo, is the silencer in the intake side? Have you checked to make sure all the bolt are tight, including exhaust?

air noise

stock turbo, no silencer ring, all bolts tight. the noise is not as high pitched as the turbo whine and comes in at exactly 1850 rpm and quits at 2000. does it sitting still or moving, so it seems it is limited to engine area.

Does this TSB apply to you? I had the this problem on my 99, it's a quick fix.

09-04-99 All Hard-to-diagnose noise coming from the engine turbocharger area.

This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a Cummins 5. 9L – 24V diesel engine built prior to engine serial number (ESN) 56587424. The ESN is located on the engine data plate which is located on the front left side of the engine, affixed to the gear housing.

A noise may be present which on initial investigation may sound like a noisy turbocharger bearing. The sound of the noise may be described as a whistle, a squeal, a howl, a moan, or a gurgle. The noise will be more noticeable as engine temperature increases. The noise will most often occur when the warm engine is operated between 1,500 and 2,200 rpm’s. The noise is usually heard in the cab, louder on the passenger side or seems to come form the dash vents. The noise may be caused by the coolant supply hose connector. The connector is located on the cylinder head next to the turbocharger. The connector is used to supply coolant to the heater hose. The bulletin describes the replacement of the hose connector

RankRam.

Sure sounds like my problem. Now how do I fix it? Do I have to take it to the dealer or can I fix it? I try to stay out of the dealerships as much as possible. thanks.

air noise

Not yet, but I clamped the hose off with vise grips, and guess what, no noise. I ordered the coolant connector. what in the world could make this thing make this kind of noise. any moving parts in it? I don't know.
