The problem with the internet is there is just too too much info out there. *LOL* :)

Now that I have settled on a good rigid fiver hitch, Pullrite 20. 5K, Iam wondering If I shouldn't also consider the new air ride hitches on the market.

Iam interested in the experiences or opinions of anyone who has knowledge about this new way to tow, and also reduce wear and tear on both truck and trailer (allegedly).

Iam clueless on this subject, so fill me in... . Please. Even if its only something you've heard.

Many thanks,

Joe

There are two kinds of air rides, one for the trailer pin, and one for the hitch in your truck. It is really a matter of preference and the depth of your wallet. My experience with a 5ver with about #2400 of pin wieght is that the fiver mostly rocks in a back and fourth motion. If your hitch has a tight locking jaw, as in one that "hooks" the pin, rather than closeing on it from both sides (like a Reese) the fit will be tighter, and minimize the motion. I considered the air ride, but after pulling the rig for several trips, I could not justify the extra expense, and the eventual wearing out of the air ride parts. I believe in the acronym KISS. Keep it simple, stu... ... :p Really, it would probably make a difference in the ride, it is just up to you how important that is, and if it is worth the $$$. Good luck in your search, :-{} Sarge

Looked into the air ride hitch, but put Mor/Ryde on the truck and trailer. Took rig to Mor/Ryde replaced every bit of the trailers running gear. Was like pulling a diff trailer. Can run I 40 in Ark,I 10 in La,no problem. Now if there is a fix for the jerking I get when braking hard and the ABS start doing it's thing. 4 wheel ABS is not a good thing when the trailer does not have ABS. Truck brakes pulse trailers don't. Get a push pull that is not fun

I'm using the Easy Rider air suspension hitch and really love it! Oo.

While there are less costly alternatives, I've found that this is one product that is at least as good as their testimonials (which read like the wildest fiction) say. ;)

When towing, the only ways that I know that my trailer's back there are (1) by looking in the mirrors, (2) the truck doesn't come up to speed as quickly, (3) the fuel mileage isn't as good, and (4) the truck rides even better. :D

If someone were to steal this one, I'd be on the phone (within seconds of notifying the police of the theft) to order another, even if the insurance didn't cover it.

Check out their website, read what others have said, and give them a call to request their free video. While you're at it, don't hesitate to ask them any questions that come to your mind.

They're good people, and good people to do business with.

If you don't mind doing business with thieves, there's an outfit that's been infringing on Easy Rider's patents for years. Every time that Easy Rider takes them to court (5 times, so far) they close the business and start up another one doing the same thing.

Trail Air makes an air suspension pin box that attaches to the trailer. Their owners speak highly of them.

Joe,

If you check the price that'll probably talk you out of it right quick.

I agree with clem, improve the trailer suspension it will cost less and improve the ride of the trailer. With an air hitch you get a smooth ride, but the trailer is still bucking and bouncing. Of course, if you have deep pockets and don't mind turning loose of that money get air ride for the truck, it gives a smooth ride all the time towing or not. You get a little extra for your money, and if you have any left over you can convert the trailer to air ride too!:D

Just a few thoughts from someone who can't afford either

I have the Mor Ride suspension on my Teton and it rides like a dream. My wife left a full stainless thermos of coffee on the counter last spring when we left the campground, 30 miles down the road I wanted a jolt and we discovered the thermos was missing. I figured the mirror backsplash on the counter was toast, but the thermos was right where she left it. Nothing moves around much back there.

I had a rear kitchen HitchHiker II and the back of the trailer was always a disaster, wish I had the Mor Ride on that one, too.
