I want to replace the rear leaf springs with an air suspension on my 97 Ram3500 Dually 2WD. Has any body out there done this? I looked at Talon's kit, but they only go back to 2000. Looked at AirRide tech kit:(..... it looked a little wimpy.

I have Air-Lift helper springs on my truck and when its aired up its like driving a pogo stick. The air also seems to overheat my shocks faster. I am currently researching a solution that doesn't use airbags at all. I don't know if a kit that removes the spring and replaces it with an airbag will be better or worse but I can tell you I dont like the way my air bags ride on or off road.

I have air ride all the way around on my 1998-1/2 2WD dually w/Cummins 24 valve Diesel. What I have came from Air Ride Technologies (ridetech.com) in Jasper, Indiana. The rear portion works very well. In order to make them work, you must use the shock they recommend, or an adjustable shock with a lot of rebound resistance.

The front air ride does not hold the front end up without 120# + air pressure. I am now in the process of installing 3800# airbags in front to hold up the Cummins. Hopefully, I will be able to cut the air pressure to 50# or 60# psi. I am working with Chassis Tech in Phoenix (AirBagIt.com - Air Suspension Kits, Mini-Truck Parts, Sport Compact Parts! Airride, Airsprings, Towing Kits, Lambo Vertical Doors, Airbags. ), on this project.

I would highly recommend Air Ride Technologies unit properly set up on the rear. It improves the ride and handling both loaded and unloaded. You can check out both these companies. I also believe Air Ride offers a rear air ride setup. Hope this information is what you are looking for.

i'm running the kelderman system that attaches to the rear of the springs. they give a very comfortable ride. but have noticed some side to side movement of the axle, due to the rubber mounted joints from the springs to the main kelderman pivot points. resulting in about a 1/2" total side to side movement.

if i have anouther air ride system installed, i would go with bags only. getting rid of all of the extra flex joints, thus providing more side to side stability. ie: less shifting.

Air Ride Suspension

I'm currently working on the rear suspension which I purchased from Air Ride Technolgies. I did have to make a couple changes to brackets and the shocks they supplied were too long, but for the most part it was a bolt on kit. I have not completed the project so I can't comment on the ride quality yet (I still have to finish the front suspension). I did remove the bed to make the install easier. Here are a couple pictures.
