Truck is 2004. 5 with dual climate control. Took delivery Apr 02, 2004. Around here the temps were pretty moderate then. This fall I have noticed when it falls below 45 degrees or so there is a noise coming from the air system at the passengers feet area that sounds like FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. It is always associated with reduced air flow. It makes the sound on all settings from Defrost to Vent. It is most noticable with fan on high. It is loud enough to be easily heard over the normal fan noise.
Double-check: It is 70 degrees when I park the truck and I turn the fan to high, then I shut truck off. 40 degrees in the morning, and for half a second the noise is not there, then the FFFFFFFFFFFFF sound starts.
Had it twice into the dealer. They were finally able to replicate the problem (the first night I dropped it off was not cold enough). After finding an update for some control head, they repeated test again last night, no change this morning. It still does it.
Now, according to DC this is normal operation. Apparently the person in the "ivory tower" has a truck just like mine and it does that too.
Anyone else notice same thing? My 2001, for all the problems it had, did not do this. Am I crazy? The answer is yes. Is this normal? I don't think so.
As I type this, I think I need to visit dealership on a cold day and start 5 of their diesels and see if they do it too. Sorry for the long post.
