I think I've noticed that with the cooler air (30 deg) that the engine sound a bit louder/meaner. I've made no upgrades that may influence the engine sound, just winter air has arrived ( sort of). Is this typical or do I need to check things out.

Hey Metal Tech,

Do you also get a clicking noise, when you have to cold start? Today I did a cold start the engine sounded loud and all, but there was a clicking sound, like the oil pump didn't have any oil in it.

Anyone else has some input on this, if it is normal, or something to worry about?? Thanks.

Ive noticed the same thing. Especially when it was new. Had a different sound everytime I started it cold. Like the ECU changes settings when air temps change. It doesnt do it as much now that its getting broken in. Maybe its due to the timing advance of the VA box. Anyways it used to bug me a little, now Ive written it off as normal charactistics of the beast. It hasnt been a problem.

I was in Minnesota over the hoidays and the temperture was near zero degrees F. The truck clattered like there was no oil in the valve lifters. On warm days it make less noise and when I got back to NC it sounded normal again. I have no idea what is making all the noise in the engine, but it doesn't seem to hurt it.
