`03 3500- no air will come out of the dash vents, change to defrost or floor and they work fine, what kind if actuator is in these trucks? any help?!! :{

Mine would do the same, but could not get defroster to work. dealer tried to fix once worked for a little while and is acting up again. :{

Air vents

My problem is just a little different. There are times, usually when it is warm outside and need the A/C that I try to change from floor or defrost to dash vents, that the air is roaring in there somewhere, but nothing is coming out of any outlet. That includes floor, defrost, or dash vents. This happened last summer twice, and just again last weekend. This condition usually clears up within 5-10 minutes, and every thing returns to normal. Anyone else experience this problem? Taking it to a dealer when it is working normaly really doesn't do much good, as they will tell you to bring it back when it does it again, but by the time I get back to the dealer, it is working again.

Suggestions?

Howdy,

I have a 96 so probably different, but I just had the same problem. All selections worked fine except the vents.

I changed the vac operated servo called the "vent-defrost door actuator". The defrost always worked fine, not sure why it was called that.

It only took a few minutes to throw in, and about $38 to buy from the dealer.

Luckily it was easy to get to. Up and to the right of the "gas" pedal.

Good luck.

mine too has a mind of its own... at times [when you really need it] i can't get any air up through the dash defrost vents, then on its own later it starts blowing from there. going to the dealer on tuesday. hopefully they can fix it up good

Just last night I asked my service manager if he knew of any issues with this - of course, he said no (I've never gotten any other answer than that for any of the TSB items that I've had repaired).

Damn, you guys read that TSB? Its an extensive job just to replace that flapper. Since I'm at 55K, I'm going to end up footing the bill for it.

I'm having air/flow problems too. Isn't it amazing that when you ask a dealer if anyone else ever has had a promblem like you and low and behold, I'm the ONLY one that has aver had this problem! Until I show them print outs from here to the opposite. That is when I feel like I got um by the short hairs!!!

Yeah, but their short hairs only last for 36K... ... .

I've also got several electrical gremlins - drivers side rear brake light (just stopped working - bulb replaced and nothing!), right turn signal intermittently wont work, overhead display sometimes just blanks out to dashes.

The LITTLE dealer near me(3 techs)has done a BUNCH of them! Some MORE then once! Now they say the TSB is revised to replace lower heater box assy.

My diverter/flapper is stuck on the upper vent position. It just broke yesterday. I have 52k on my truck. Is it still under warranty? Did you get yours repaired? What does it cost if you aren't covered under warranty?

I just looked over the diagram in the TSB "Defrost Door Inoperative". My problem is that I can't change the mode. It is stuck on the vent only mode where air just blows out the front vents. It doesn't work on any other mode (defrost, floor vent, or any combination). After looking at the diagram, it looks like there is an actuator just controlling the door that directs air out different vents (defrost, floor, or any combination).

front vents

mines doing the same thing air only comes out the front and nothing else

i bought the extended warranty but dealer says the door isnt covered :{

but the controller is ?? :-{} :-{}

i guess ill live with cold feet for a while
