I am going to replace my stock bumper with an aftermarket. I need to know if by changing the bumper, will it affect the airbags or is there anything I should know before removing the stock bumper as to not set off the airbags? Where are the sensors for the airbags located? TIA

The airbag control module is on the floor in the cab on top of the transmission hump, mounted under the dash in front of the stickshift (below the cupholders for you auto guys), and it contains the only sensors relating to airbag deployment. Nothing to do with the front bumper, so you're safe!

Going from memory, but I recall the airbag accelerometer sensors being mounted on each front fender well. Don't hit anything and you'll be OK

As posted by PC12Driver, the sensor is located in the Airbag Control Module. On your model year 2002 Ram with manual transmission the module is hidden under the center portion of the dash, forward of the floor console.

hit it all ya want!!!

the air bag sensors are all "decelleromters" (i know the spelling is off!!) usually located in the middle of all vehicles. they work on a rate of slowing down, not impact. you can hit a deer and with a large vehicle and usually not deploy the airbag because the animal is not heavy enogh to cause a rate of deceration that is quick enough to cause the airbags to deploy. striking the bumper, or any other part of the vehicle for that matter, will not result in airbag deployment. if it does, then the airbag system was defective in the first place!! feel free to hit the bumper all day with a sledge hammer, the airbag won't go off!!
