I own a 01 5 speed with 255k. Factory IP lasted 180k and then was replaced with a blue chip 235hp vp44 with stock Carter lift pump. SincE the day I put these two on I'm at 10 psi @ idle and around 3-5 psi @ 70mph. Obviously I need a better fuel supply do I ordered the Airdog FRRP 100gph.
Do any of you run this LP ? I run superchips flash paq with a boost fooler. Nothing v very hi-po but enough to drop my pressure to 0 @ wot.. I imagine I will need a draw straw at some point too, but I will see the new LP handles things. I should see much better power above 1500 rpm ...ll

If you have not yet installed it I would return it ASAP. Do some searches on the internet, they are failing daily at a high rate. Mainly it appears as though there are issues with the seal between the pump and the motor, the seal fails allowing fuel into the motor and the motor fails. I am also seeing a few gerrorator problems being reported. I can tell you I had 2 of them fail in less than a year, once the 2nd pump failed I switched gears to another setup. I took the new Raptor pump on warranty and pulled the motor and used it on an AD100 I had that had a burned up motor. So far I've put double the mileage on this set up as I did the Raptor with no issues.

Update: the install went great, however, when I test drive the truck I noticed hard start and once i started getting into the fuel, my fuel pressure warning light would SLIGHTLY flicker but go t"otally of once I got above 2500rpm. I then noticed a fuel leak at the fuel pressure sensor that is on the intake of VP44. Basically the sensor broke internally and was leaking diesel onto the ground like a water gun. Triplet Diesel of Waco,Texas gave me a new FP sensor which solved everything. Easy starting and no loss of pressure. The air dog raptor makes the truck more responsive and berry fuel mileage on highway. I guess the mileage increase is from the Vp 44 having proper pressure thus providing correctly timed injection events. That's all I can think of....

I just purchased an Air Dog Raptor replacement lift pump. While preparing to install it I realized my '02 has the lift pump in the tank. Want to buy a pump?

That's good to know. I just bought one without pulling my head out long enough to see that my truck has the pump in the tank. What do you recommend for mild fuel system modifications for an in-tank pump setup? I've got a Superchips FlashPaq tuner coming for my truck as well and I don't want to starve it. Also, what is the story on the in-tank pumps. Was that a recall or update or something? My truck also has a remanufactured VP44 of unknown history. I'm strongly thinking about just biting the bullet and putting a new injection pump, nozzles and fuel system upgrades on all at once to have it done and have the piece of mind.

Dodge required the intank pump when installing their new/reman VP44. Take your VIN to a dealer and they should have a record of the VP44 install. Install a Vulcan draw straw and bypass the intank pump. Be sure to install a screen like 100mm filter before the pump with the draw straw as you are not using the stock pickup with a screen. You could Y valve the stock intank beyond the Air Dog and have a backup system by switching the electrical connection and switching the Y valve.

Why a Superchips, they have never been very popular for the Dodge/Cummins? Edge, Smarty, BullyDog were the popular choices. I would look for an used Smarty!

Not to get off topic, but I second what snoking said about the flashpaq. I had one and didn't much care for it, especially how long it took to download a different tune. Shift on the fly boxes is where it's at. My comp on 2x2 has way more power than the flashpaq on performance mode. Also, my truck came w an air dog installed on the frame and it did develope a leak back last fall but after replacing some push lock fittings all is well and doesn't get down past 15 psi ever. Hopefully itll hang in there and be trouble free for some time to come

There's not much used anything out there that I've seen. At least not on ebay. I haven't checked anywhere else. I'm also leery of buying someone else's problems when it comes to electronics. And if the unit is VIN-locked that's just more hassle and headache to deal with. I've got a friend that has a Smarty on his truck but I don't know much about them. I'm not really concerned about tuneability on the go and the longer it takes to "retune" the more time I have to think about it before I do something stupid, lol. At some point I'd like to have an Edge with all the bells and whistles and be able to "hot rod" at will, but the FlashPaq will do what I want to do right now. I'll probably never get crazy with the '02 since I'm more concerned about long-term durability and reliability than short-term performance. My '94 will probably be my guinea pig for getting stupid or I'll buy a 1st gen to play with and build a P-pump 12v for it. May as well start with the lightest, simplest truck out there if performance is the goal. I'd take my '92 I wrecked back in the day over my '94 in a heartbeat.
