Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Airdog or FASS, yep this again

So I ask this question for a very good friend of mine who just bought a 1998 quad cab short bed 5 speed truck with 169k on it. I have had 2 24v trucks for a very short time in the past and I remember having the lift pump go out on one of them unknown to me a bit to late and it took out the pump.

Being as I'm pretty much in 12v land now and was at the same time I had the 2 24v trucks since my daily then was a 1997 12v I didn't get to learn the ins and outs as much as I wish I had as I no longer have any of those trucks. The only advice I could give my friend was to ditch the stock lift pump for a fass or airdog. Is this correct thinking? If so which one is preferred? He doesn't as of yet plan on getting wild with it just some tasteful mods like, BHAF and maybe a tune down the line.

I'm asking this for him since he doesn't have an acct. yet but I'm sure he will very soon since I let him on the secret and gave an extra TDR issue I had

Fuel pressure gauge first. Might not even need additional fuel. Factory pump is cheap and easy to replace.

This is the best way to go with the 24 valve engines. Either one will work good for him.

I have an early AirDog. It has been a good pump for quite a number of years. The later years there were some issues. Don't know now about how the new ones are running.

I have the airdog 100 in conjunction with a sump draw because my 2002 also came with a intank pump installed by the dealership
I plumbed my airdog so it was close to the fuel source because they say its a sucker type pump but it works best as a pusher pump

I had one of the early FASS systems years ago on my '01. No complaints and from what I understand it is still going strong with the truck's new owners.
