Ok, so I have the aFe and the Old Smoky mount, but what else can I do to increase the air flow?

I'm just talking about the supply of air to the filter, not internal stuff.

So what about increasing the size of that little air tube thingy-bobber that fed the old airbox? Will I notice any difference by maybe relocating the inlet to a place where it will see more direct airflow? What about enlarging it???

If I relocated the inlet to a spot with direct airflow... would it be too much? I won't put it anywhere too drastic, or I will have bugs and rain/snow finding their way into the filter.

Mine is 4 times the size of original and to date no problems with water or snow in the filter. I have to think it makes a difference especially in warmer temps. The more air introduced thru the rad support will cut down on the amount of hot under hood air being used with the added benefit of cooling under hood temps.

If you run in a lot of water and wet snow there is the potential of getting the filter wet enough to cause a problem. A deflector at the top of the air vent should minimize the problem and not intefere with air flow. Adding an Outerwears cover would help keep the filter dry also.

Even with the enlarged air vent I think there is still a problem getting a good flow to the filter. I have some rough plans for an air scoop that would sit below the bumper and redirect a steady flow of outside air to the filter. Just need to find somebody with a break and time to fab it up.

The street racers are doing the same thing on their little buggies. A custom air scoop to feed the turbo seems to make a significant difference in performance.

Thanks. That's actually what I was considering, is designing some kind of scoop with a larger diameter tube going to the filter.

Hmmm... . to the drawing board I go... :D
