Six months or so ago when I changed the ATF in my '08 3500 C&C I searched and found that Mobil Oil refined, bottled, and sold a product meeting Aisin specs for use in our automatic transmissions. Of course, I could have purchased the product at my "friendly" local Dodge dealer for $12/qt.

The correct product a few months ago was Mobil ATF 3309 indicating the product met JWS-3309 which is the specification that appears on the MOPAR ATF for Aisin six speed automatics. I bought it at a local Autozone store for abou $8/qt.

Last week I went into Lubbock to an Autozone store and found they no longer sell Mobil ATF 3309. That store had a couple bottles of Mobil Multiple-Vehicle ATF but it did not list JWS-3309 specs.

I spent a couple of hours on the internet and telephone the following day sending e-mails and ultimately talking to a Mobil engineer. The Mobil engineer told me that around August 2008 they reformulated Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF so that it now meets the Aisin spec JWS-3309. They stopped bottling Mobil ATF 3309. Note that older stock does not meet JWS-3309. The JWS-3309 spec must be printed on the label on the backside of the jug to be compatible.

Today I went back to Lubbock to another Autozone store and found 15 quarts of Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF. I bought 12, don't remember how many quarts a fluid change requires, but better to have a few quarts on my shelf rather than not enough. Price at Autozone was $7. 99/quart.
 
I use Lucas Oil Multi-Vehicle ATF semi synthetic that has the JWS 3309/DEX III spec's. Bought some today for $6. 19 qt at Autozone.
 
just curious how often you guys feel like is a good time to change the trans oil? I've always done it at 30k intervals, havent actually read what the manual says,

PLefeve... . I changed mine @ 80,000 mi intervals and most of my miles are loaded between 30,000-40,000 lbs gross. Even still it seemed a waste because oil still looked clean with barely any contaminates in bottom of pan. This last change interval I ran it over 120,000 mi and it seemed to be more worthwhile with small amount of residue in bottom of pan. I buy my Mopar/Aisin filter @ Freightliner dealer for around $100. 00 and Lucas oil at Autozone $6. 19 qt... takes about 10 qt to do the service.
 
I've changed mine at 40k and 45k and observed the same thing Ragain reported. I plan to change the change interval to 50k in the future although that is probably unnecessary.

Just noticed this thread and wanted to mention that I currently stock Mobil ATF 3309 in quarts here for the Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks that we service and sell with the Aisin transmission in them.



We have stocked it since Feb. of 2010 when we took on the Fuso line.



As I recall it is in a blue bottle with 3309 across the front of it.



Maybe they brought it back out by itself after your original post in '09.

Of course I am out right now just because I wanted to look at a quart,:mad:



Mobil stock order arrives tomorrow and I will get a closer look, maybe grab a product code for you guys.

Does the Fuso your dealership sells use the same Aisin as our Dodge Rams?

I don't really know much about a Fuso but they are typically a ten wheel box truck platform with about a 30k gvwr aren't they?
 
No, the Fe's that we sell are little buggers.



Here is a brochure, check out the transmission specs for all of the FE models on page four.

If it is not the same it is a very close relative.



The bigger Fuso's, FK and up use an Allison.



I know the sticker on the door of the trucks specifies Mobil 3309 as the only approved fluid for the Aisin 6 speed auto.

A Google search turned up a hit for thelubricantstore.com.
Mobil ATF 3309 case for $53 or about $4. 40/qt. shipping?
Amazon often has free shipping.
 
Another option is Amsoil ATF. It has always done really well for my families auto trannies.



The Amsoil is rated for 50K severe or 100K normal service, vs the Mobil which is rated for OEM intervals, 30K. At $7. 75/qt, or $30. 40/gal (preffered pricing) its hard to go wrong.



Might not be something your interested it, but wanted to throw it out there.
 
OK, the 3309 made it today on my Mobil order.



That price that was found on Amazon is below my Direct Bill cost:eek: from Mobil so jump on it if the freight isn't nuts.



I have a few pictures showing packaging, product code and label on back of jug.

That is clearly the right stuff. If shipping costs from Maine to west Texas wouldn't wipe out the savings I'd ask you to get me a couple of cases of it.
 
HERE is an ExxonMobil distributor offering it for sale. If they can get it, your local distributor should be able to as well (if they WANT to, that is).

Thanks, I saved your link. Will have to search the yellow pages and see if Lubbock or Lbk area has an Exxon-Mobil distributor.

Thank you very much!

I will contact that distributor in a week or two and see if I can stock up. Prices of petroleum products are only going to increase for the next couple of years so I think it would be better to buy now at current prices.

I would do it Monday but have an appointment with NuWa's service department in Chanute, KS Tuesday to have a couple of things done to my HitchHiker.

NuWa, maker of HitchHiker fivers for those who may not know, operates the best service department in America. I prefer hauling the trailer 550 miles or whatever to Chanute to let them work on my trailer over taking it to a dealer in Lbk even though the service manager of the HH dealer in Lbk is a good guy and has been a friend since I moved to Lbk.
 
I had completely forgotten about this thread and about Rusty's recommendation above. When I left home in late January a year ago with my HitchHiker I made it to Chanute, KS to the factory just in time to get caught in a serious blizzard. The good guys who run the service department offered me the opportunity to pull the trailer from the local city park and put it inside the service building before the snowstorm hit so I wouldn't get stuck and be unable to get it to them.

As it turned out the snowstorm was so bad NuWa shut down and sent all their employees home for two days and my two female German Shepherds and I spent three nights stuck in a local motel. My truck was snowed in and I couldn't get it out of the motel parking lot until the third day. I had to walk down the street 1/4 mile into a blizzard to a fast food store to get my meals.

By the time I got back home later that week I had forgotten all about this thread and the local Exxon/Mobil supplier. Since Mike called it to my attention I just called. A very nice lady employee didn't have the Mobil One ATF meeting JWS 3309 spec but called and verified their product met the spec and ordered it out of a warehouse in Austin. I ordered two cases. It will cost me about $5. 50/quart for 24 quarts.

Beheiting: I checked on Amazon and the lubricant store also. They do have it but had only one case of twelve quarts and the price was going to be about the same. Thanks for the tip you provided also.
