I've been researching transmission fluids to use in the Aisin trans in my 08 C&C. I was going to go with the Mobil Multi Vehicle fluid which meets the JWS 3309 spec. I'm having a hard time finding this stuff though, everyone has Mobil 1 Synthetic Multi Vehicle fluid but its not JWS 3309 compatible. I did though find that Royal Purple is listed as meeting the 3309 spec, plus its listed as being approved for Chrysler Mopar AS68RC. Looks like a winner (except for the $14. 99 per quart price) but has anyone here tried it? My local dealer has the Mopar stuff for $15. 83 so its only about a $6 savings for the Royal Purple. If the RP works though I can take the savings and go get a couple beers after the fluid change is done... . :-laf

Autozone was my source for AISIN automatic transmission fluid that was JWS 3309 spec.

I don't drive my truck as much now and haven't changed the ATF for awhile but everytime I needed it I was able to buy it at an Autozone.

Check out this thread, the Mobil 3309 is still readily available.

I have it here on the shelf.

EDK,

Mobil still makes the product but it is now named Mobile 1 Multi-Vehicle ATF. If you review the spec on the website or on a bottle it lists many applications and specs but claims it is JWS 3309 compatible as well.

I don't know where you are located but if you aren't too far away try the Lubbock supplier suggested by Rusty. Call and ask for Barbara, tell her you need what I just ordered, and have her drop ship it to you.

Harvey,
When I look at Mobils web site I find Mobil Multi Vehicle and Mobile 1 Synthetic. The label on the Synthetic does also say "Multi Vehicle". On the web site though only the old "Mobile Multi Vehicle" oil lists the JWS 3309 specification. Is there an oil I'm missing?

Here's the link to the Mobil 1 Synthetic:

Mobil 1 Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

Looking again, just now, at the specs for the "Mobil Multi Vehicle" oil it doesnt list the JWS 3309 spec. Now though I see a new oil, which I'm sure I didnt find just last night when I was researching... really, I didnt have anything to drink last night... . Now its called "Mobil ATF 3309" and its listed as only for Aisin transmissions! Link here:

Considering the limited application I doubt the 3309 stuff will be on the shelves any time soon...

Ed,

This is from memory which may be faulty:

A couple years ago when the time to change the ATF on my '08 the first time I researched the issue and posted my findings. I think (not sure) that Mobil ATF 3309 may have been what I found and used in my truck for the first change.

When the second change came around early last year or perhaps late in 2009 when I looked for that product it was no longer available. I think I found and used Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF and found JWS 3309 listed as one of the "meets" specs on the bottle.

This afternoon when Mike provided the link to my old thread and I read down through the posts, beheiting had posted a link to Amazon and "TheLubricantStore. " On the lube store website I found the specs for Mobile MV ATF and found JWS 3309 listed.

Barbara, the woman I spoke with at the Lubbock wholesale supplier, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She looked in her catalog to verify the JWS 3309 spec and told me her catalog was outdated so she made a phone call and called me back in a few minutes to confirm it.

I think Mobil MV ATF is the right stuff and that's what I ordered two cases of this afternoon.

Harvey,
Yeah I saw your old thread and just finished reading through it. I'm guessing that for some reason Mobil's web site coughed up an old version and thus I found the page on the older ATF 3309 product. I'm sure it wasn't there just yesterday...

I will call my Mobil Distributor on Monday and see what the story is.

I just ran the product code (shown on the case in the linked thread) which is 98GX57 on the Mobil Oil website and it still comes up.

In order to get the 3309 I may have to advise you all to simply use the 98GX57 product code rather than trying to explain the 3309 spec.

I will confirm or deny come Monday, I am curious now.

Mobil spec for the 3309, open the link and then select the "specs" tab.

I'm not thinking that is gonna' be the correct stuff for the Aisin, Harvey... .

Let me get an answer Monday.

I wont be buying oil for a couple weeks but with all the confusion I'm thinking I will probably go with the Royal Purple. It meets the 3309 spec plus it lists the Chrysler Mopar AS68RC as an approved transmission. An added benefit is that a few of my local parts stores carry the Royal Purple and none have either of the Mobil oils in question. .

Mike,

I appreciate your opinion and information on this.

The woman who ordered the ATF for me advised it will take a couple of weeks to get it. I won't get her call until they receive their next truckload and I don't need to change mine for awhile anyway. I ride my Goldwing every day and my truck sits parked so I won't need an ATF change for several months.

In any case, I won't buy a product or put it in my truck unless the specs on the bottle claim JWS 3309.
