Can someone tell me which line is the hot line going to the front? I need to pull it off and attach a sending unit to it for my new temp gauge...

has anybody done this? or has anyone put a mechanical gauge on theirs?

I have a transmission temp gauge but the sensor is attached to the cooler line with one of those small Geno's fittings and clamp.

Do you know how accurate it is? I mean, what is the degree of difference between that type of install, verses either a probe in the pan or a cut in the line with a probe installed?

I don't know what the true range of error is with a clamp on sensor but I don't think it is real accurate. I think I"ve seen a reasonable estimate in the Geno's catalog. The guys at Geno's know and tell a prospective buyer it is not the most accurate method but is the quickest and easiest.

The reason I used it was to avoid dumping the pan and all the fluid when the truck was new. I have simply never gotten around to installing a fitting in the pan to use a more professional temp sensor.

If you use a heat sink compound between the line and the adaptor, it will be extremely accurate. There may be a slight delay in readings, because the adaptor has to heat up or cool off to match the line. I have mine mounted just past the first bend coming from the transmission. If there is a discrepancy, you will never realize it. It will be accurate enough to keep you aware of whats going on.
