Anyone know the Aisin max HP/TQ ratings on the Aisin transmission? I can't seem to find anything on it.

Thanks, Wiredawg

Any Dodge cab chassis 3500, 4500 or 5500 and any transmission is rated 305 hp and 610 trq. per the 2010 Dodge build specs.

Wiredawg,

Aisin website info is not real generous. I have looked at various links several times and never found anything specific.

It may be a safe bet that the Cummins used in our C&Cs is detuned for the Aisin factory specified limits . . . ie 305hp and 610tq.

Gents,

Howdy. I guess it makes sense Dodge derating the engine for the transmission. They claimed it was derated for economy, but that may be a second order benefit. I have been so busy, still haven't haven't had time to plumb the aux tank, install gauges or install aux lighting except I added about 20 marker lamps. Folks at work say ot looks like a Christmas tree coming.

Thanks for the responses.

Take care, Ron

It could be that the engine is derated since it has the potential to be used in a high horsepower PTO operation such as running hydraulic or water pumps. In high horsepower PTO applications, engine heat rejection is a big problem since the truck isn't moving.

Bill,

I have no knowledge or experience with PTO applications and am completely clueless about them.

Is it possible to install pto-driven truck-mounted hydraulic or water pump equipment on the Dodge platform that would require enough hp and torque to load the Cummins and create heating issues when the truck is parked?

Would derating the engine from 350/650 to 305/610 make enough difference to avoid cooling system overheating caused by heavy power demand from a static truck?

Gents,

I guess my type A personality likes knowing design limits and actual performance ratings, especially the driveline components. I'm a little suprised about how little tech info there is out there about this transmission, except that it represents a small customer base relative to the rest of the market.

I'll still keep searching and looking to the TDR to learn more about our C&Cs.

Thanks, Ron

Thanks a Bunch for the info. I'm no engineer, but it seems logical that components in the driveline would be rated higher than the motor. Im impressed w/ the info.

Take care, Ron

The reason for the derating on the C&C has two reasons 1) Emmisions are different than the reg pickup. 2) Commercial durability was a consideration.

I'm no expert, just got the information from the only person who got the specs right when I ordered my 3500 C&C and not even the factory reps got it right. The head rep from the Dodge Rodeo circuit that travels with the Rodeo, was the only person who got it right in all HP and Torque ratings for all of the (at that time) new 6. 7 versions, manual and autos. I didn't want to believe him, because of the rumors at the time, the 6. 7 HP would increase for Jan 07 and after, and I waited to order which cost me an extra 2K  and still had the 305/610.

I found some info on the web. See the link:

http://www.atra.com/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home&CONTENTID=1694&TEMPLATE=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm

I tried to attach the pdf but its too large. It says that the maximum torque for the AS68RC (also known as A456) is 730 ft-lbs. It also says the max torque for the Cummins 6. 7L is 565 ft-lbs which doesn't match any specs that I've seen before so take it as is.

Thank you for posting that article. I could never find any specs in browsing on the various links to Aisin.

I was assuming and hoping when I ordered the truck that the Aisin would be a well-designed and robust unit. I am even more confident now. I also like the way it performs.

My truck will never be modified to produce beyond the factory hp and tq ratings and I don't ask it to tow beyond 26,000 lbs. gross combined so I expect it to last a long time.

Something I was curious about was the part number for the transmission. The Aisin 6 speed automatic transmission was introduced as P/N: AS68RC. However, in the Body Builders Guide it is referred to as "AW68R".
