Aisin post oil/filter change

So I did some searches and couldn't find a clear answer.

I have a 2018 3500 that I purchased a year ago. It has 90,000 on it and I don't know maintenance history. I've been working my way through the fluid changes and now it's the trans. There are no odd signs of problems with the trans so I'm not expecting anything when I drop the pan.
But with my lack of experience with auto's, what would be signs of trouble? I expect to have some sludge in the bottom that I'll have to wipe out and some fuzz on the magnets - anything else to look for?

And.....is there any certain procedure to follow after I've replaced the filter/gasket/pan and refilled the fluid? Or just cycle slowly through the gears in the driveway and check oil level?

Well, welcome to the AISIN club. I will be doing my 4y service in October, (fluid drain and filter this time) so right there with ya. Get the fluid you prefer and need, I know it was about 8qts on my drain and re-fill, Id have to look up how much more for a filter change, but probably another qt or two. I used Amsoil Signature ATF, but many use the Mobil 3309, just make sure it meets the SPEC for the AISIN AS69RC. Nothing special about the service that I know of, (other than the back pan bolts are a bugger to get to and you may want to make a special socket like I will. (some members here may post about their special tools and techniques). Other than that should be pretty strait forward. At least the AISIN has a pan drain bolt so you wont take a ATF bath like most. Id expect some thing, but if fluid comes out decent should be no big deal. Make sure you don't overfill, but fill it with about what you took out (can measure how much came out if you want as some do) then start, cycle the gears a few times and check. I then took mine out for a ride and checked again, it is easy to overfill, ask me how I know.. Top up to the safe zone and done. Good luck.

The spray adhesive GS turned me on to holding gasket to the pan is a BIGGIE. Also grinding down a six pt 10mm socket using a 1/4 “ flex extension makes the hard to get at bolts nearly a breeze.

Dropped the pan in about 30 minutes. Used a 1/4inch drive and 6 inch extension (didn't need the wobbly)- loosened the bolt and pressed a PVC tube (1/2in OD - 3/8 ID) over the head and pulled the bolt right out. Didn't have to worry about losing the bolt on the cross member as the head stayed in the PVC tube. easy to start the bolt with the opposite procedure.
Pan was super clean with just a little fuzz around the edge of the 4 magnets. Clean the pan in the morning - R&R the filter and button it back up.

What was the spray adhesive that you used on the pan gasket?

I just did my 2016 Aisin filter swap, IN the process of filling it, I put in 4 qts and started the engine to allow the transmission to suck in fluid.
After getting the amount in the pan needed while running. I had a check engine light. My transmission shifted hard in Reverse and Forward.
I thought the hard shifting may be due to low fluid, but it was not. I test drove it and other than First and reverse shifting hard. I thought I had an issue.
So, I cleared the code(low transmission pressure), and the transmission shifting hard went away. I wish I had done that before test driving. This is the second filter change I have done and do not remember this happening before. Just a fore warning, If you get a Check engine light, you may want to check it and see what it is
for. Mine was for low fluid pressure. Anyhow, My filter swap and drain only took 8 qts total.

Never had an issue with my changes filter or not. I make sure my fluid is at full mark hot prior to service. I measure exactly how much drained and fill that exact amount before starting. I start it let it run a bit in park then place in neutral for a bit then forward and reverse to park.

Sooooo - finished up this afternoon. 8 quarts but just a tad low on the stick. I'll add the other 1/2 quart tomorrow. I was very happy to see how clean the pan was. basically just the fuzz on the magnet. I don't know the maintenance record for this truck.
Things I learned:
- use the 1/2OD-3/8ID PVC hose over the rear bolt nuts heads once loosened up. This method makes it very easy to put the bolts back in also.
- put a small garbage bag around the filter before pulling it off the trans body. Saves a BIG mess.
- After fluid is in - start and stop the motor 4-6 cycles until the check engine light is out. Then the vlv body has full pressure and you can shift into reverse or drive without the hard slam that some folks have experienced ..

“tad low”, I would add much less than 1/2 quart to start. Make sure you are at full operating temp!!!

I second that... it sneaks up quickly on the dipstick, its a PITA to suck out the overage when you get too much in.... Id start with no more than 1/2 pint depending on how far below the full mark you are... if in between, Id just drive it a few times and re-check. As has been stated, drive it around and get up to temp.. it takes awhile, I found the EB helped warm it up faster (throttle, then slow down using EB and Trans...)

I'll try and upload - I have to re-size it smaller and I'm bad at that. the PVC tube is just the clear poly tubing that is flexible from Home D or even auto parts stores. It is 3/8 id which fit tightly over the 10mm bolt head. It is not the rigid PVC pipe.
