I am the 2nd owner of a 98 12valve 5spd 4x4 2500 LB and it appears to have a factory alarm system as the key fob looks factory ie Chrysler logo. The problem is if I do not pull the fuse on the horn it just goes bonkers more often than not I have it going off.

I badly want to chuck this piece of crap, and tried by bypassing what appeared to be the brain by disconnecting it and hotwiring the starter. The result it would only start if the door was opened. A Dodge dealer said look for the hood switch and disable that, but none was found.

I might add all fuses and relays are aok. I so want to sling this alarm system over the hill,if you can call it that!! Please advise???

I can't recall what the horn switch on the 98 looks like. If it's built into the airbag cover, the overlay may be shot. If the horn buttons look like little round cookies on the spokes, they need to be lubricated with CRC silicone spray. I had this problem with my 96 Dodge, and lubricating the cookies solved it. I had (for work) a 98 Chevy and it had a bad overlay.

Does anyone have any advice for this new member? please note as stated earlier this is not a horn problem, but the alarm system!

Thanks for the clarification. I read your first post several times, but obviously I misread it.

What happened to me was almost exactly as you described, and it was a horn problem. Excuse me. My apologies.

I took the alarm off of mine and threw it over the hill as you said. Go to Car Alarm, Car Stereo, Mobile Video, and Cruise Control Info for Installers. They have free wiring diagrams for your truck. They will tell you which color wires control each alarm function and in most cases give you a rough idea were the wire is located. I had never even seen under the dash of a chrysler product and was able to eliminate the alarm with relative ease. If you get stuck on any nomenclature just let me know and I will help you through it

I wanted to thank both of you for your response in trying to help me w/ this problem. I now have it solved!
LVJUNIOR I suspect in your pic you have a flatbed, I have thought of doing the same do you have pics to share,so I could see what it looks like. My only reservations is the height of a flatbed!
