If your going to visit, the best time of year is the end of may and all through June. In June there is 18-24 hours of daylight, depending on where you are in the state, and very seldom is it cloudy. I've lived in Anchorage for 18 yrs. In June, more often than not the higher elevations have greened up,with some snow patches that will last until July or August. Driving the state is the best way to see it. Do make sure to see two things, drive and camp the Denali Highway, and Hatcher Pass north of Wasilla and Palmer. The "Highway" going to Alaska is in good shape, just watch the construction areas and the frost heaves when you get up north. We just drove it and are wintering in the southern states this winter. We have come about 9000 miles so far,and the dually is working GOOD. If you are inclined to see Denali National Park, make reservations early. It's kind of a tourist trap.
