Alaska Vacationing/Fishing trips?? Anyone do them?

Hey guys... just getting the hankerin' for fresh halibut again and while I can go off the coast here, I was thinking a trip to Alaska might finally be in order. I was wondering if any of you have vacationed/fished up there and had any recommendations (cost is a factor)... I'm not particular to any one area, but I know that fishing for 5 days straight may get a little old, so I would probably want to take off inland and do some toolin' around too. Thanks

Well now is the time. Go to Homer. Take a combo King Salmon/Halibit trip. I'll make some calls and get more up to date info if you wish. Let me know what days you can come up, and how many days you want to fish. I work out of town, leaving Friday the 2nd, be back in three weeks, but I do have internet access. IM me. I may be able to help you out on details, where to stay, what to avoid, packing fish for shipment etc. You well enjoy it.

Seldovia is a smal fishing community across the bay from Homer. You can fly or take a boat (we flew).



Dave and Peggy are great people. We stayed in their B&B two nights, and fished on the day between. Being a bit further out from Homer to start with, Dave travels to the deep shelf where you are fishing in 500' of water (using electric reels makes this possible). The boat has dual diesels motors (they sounded like Cummins).



My wife caught a 73# 'but, and I unfortunately got skunked (it was the first day of favorable tides and they weren't biting well). Peggy, however, slipped some of their private stock into the coolers when we left to make up for my lack of fishing ability. (on a good day, you can catch two for the captain too, so they always have some extra in the freezers).



The evening after the charter my wife and I were wandering through the village looking for a place to eat dinner. We walked into a resturant, and there sat Dave and Peggy. It was there wedding anniversery. They invited us to sit with them (actually they instisted).



It was a very memerable trip. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Enjoy your trip, I went fishing last weekend and we hope to get out both days this weekend. Great fishing is one of the fringe benefits of living up here.
