We've got a few of the newer ones around here. They are really nice, quality built units. Interior headroom is only 6'4" which along with the cost excludes me. We've enjoyed our Northstar popup since 2000,but up your way I don't think the canvas sides would work out.

I had a 1968 Alaska camper. It was great, I loved it. I would have another if I had a regular cab with an 8 foot bed.

Mine was not a cabover. It had a hand pump to get it up, and came down very easily. Took no more than a couple of minutes. Slept 3 people very comfortably. Spent many a hunting trip in that rig. Very comfortable in the snow as well (easy to heat).

The only thing I didnt have that I really like having now with my TT, was a bathroom. Of course, I was younger then, and didnt realize how nice it is to have your own privy to haul around (rather than getting out of the camper and going in the woods like a bear)

The really nice thing I liked about mine was there was really no wind resistance.

When it was cranked down, the top of the camper was just above the top of the cab.

Oh, and one more thing. Since is was lower than a regular camper, it was a one man operation to get my canoe or rowboat up or off of the camper.

Hope that helps,

TRat

My Dad has an Alaskan Camper and has been very happy with it he is in his early 70s and gets along by him self if he chooses to do so. He does have a Privy built in and folding stairs he carrys along so he can get in and out. He did have some electrical problems and the fridge was a problem from the factory that he is still fighting over to get reemburst for. But he has been happy with it other than that.

According to the RV Consumer Group, all Alaskan campers are 3 star rated, which is slightly better than average. All are also rated for vacationing. There are other brands that are 4 star rated, but may cost more $$$.

If you want something that will handle the cold, Check out an Arctic Fox. They are 5 star rated, and I've had mine out in -32' celcious with no problems. I have no idea what -32C is in farenheit, but trust me, its damn cold!!!

All Arctic Fox slide in camper are 4 star rated according to RV Consumer Group, which is a great rating. Only the Northern Lite campers are 5 star rated.

You can get the Arctic Fox camper with thermo windows if you are going to where the temperature gets below 0, C or F.

I have a 1974 Alaskan Camper. It is the 8 ft version with the cab over bed. It is a well built unit, but this particular one doesn't have a privy or a heater. The wife says we need one with a heater, so I suppose I'll get around to selling it...

They are nice for traveling because of the low profile when down and roomy when the top is up. I can heat it easily with a Mr Buddy propane heater, but then I have to breath it's exhaust...

I'd consider a Lance or an Arctic Fox camper. I don't believe you'll find one better.

Have seen Alaskan campers around here but have never checked one out. Being up here in the Northwest you should try to check out a Northern Lite. Have had mine since 03 and have had zero problems. They are a little spendy new but am beginning to see a used one for sale now and then. I have the same truck as you minus some HP. and the Lite is 500 to 1000 lbs lighter than the other brands. It makes a difference, you can feel it.
