I have to trailer my car out to dayton ohio this week and am looking for the best route from the guys who know... I am only 17... but do a lot of driving regardless. Take I-90 to ohio turnpike (I-80 & I-90) then south on I-75 seems pretty direct, but it looks like there are ways to cut across Ohio and save time. I am looking for a simple route with good flow considering it will be Wednesday, the bussiest travel day of the year. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks, Joe

Only know this end- not the ohio end. one way is Take the thruway down(I-87) to I-84 W, stop for fuel at exit one ( 100 yards from jersey, jersey is on the left side of highway when westbound) NJ if you like fuel 15 cents cheaper than NY. Follow I-84 to Scranton - wilkes barre, take I-81 south. Follow to the Pa turnpike. The turnpike is an OK road- with a toll. This will avoid the NYS thruway toll. If you take 80 over and then 79 down you can avoid the pa turnpike toll also. I would find out about conditions on I-70. I-80 always has construction going on and single lane operations in PA. there must not be any jobs there except work on the same highway and not fix it for at least the 20 years I have personally seen it.

Good luck, have a fun tow.

Can't help with the trip but I was born and raised in Albany - still have a few friends back there. I "escaped" NY in 1973 but have been back several times the last time in 1998. It's good to see your hometowns name in print once in a while. :) :)

These are mileages for two routes according to Microsoft Streets & Trips:

1. 683 miles. NYTW/I90 west to Buffalo and Cleveland, I71 to Columbus, I70 to Dayton.

2. 739 miles. Via NYTW south to Newburg, I84/I80 west to Akron, I71 to Columbus, I70 to Dayton.

Be careful and have a good turkey day!

Follow Peter Campbell's directions but stay on I-80. It will turn into I-76 west. Take I-76 west to I-71 south to Columbus. In Columbus use 270 west to jump on I-70 west. I-70 west straight to Dayton. No tolls. All interstate. :)

I just drove PA,OH turnpikes Tuesday. The PA pike had construction and some slow spots. Remember both PA and OH are sticklers for keeping vehicles over 10K at the posted speed limits
