Okay, guys... I was reading all of your wisdom (and experience) and saw that you guys stated it is pretty much standard for these (similar to 2010) to be stuck at 16-18mpg. Soooooo, I took this as a "challenge"...
So, I filled up the tank Thursday and departed immediately... For those of you that aren't familiar with this particular trip, it isn't really a "pretty, sight-seeing" kinda trip... It's rolling hills, a couple of 6% inclines/declines (but they're short), and during this particular trip, we were dealing with ambient temps ranging from a low of 64 at about 3:30am this morning, to a high of 107 yesterday along I-10 between Fredericksburg and Fort Stockton. There were HUGE lightning storms and heavy rains experienced both going and coming, the longest of which lasted about 20 minutes. Of course, that being said, there were also the associated head and side winds along with these, as well...
So, here is the "data"... 964 miles each way, same route. I traveled East on I-40 to Clines Corners, NM, south on Highway 285 through Vaughn, through Roswell, through Artesia, through Carlsbad, through Pecos, TX to Fort Stockton, TX and turned east onto I-10 to Highway 290 and into Fredericksburg, TX, next morning on to San Antonio, TX... Of course, having a practically brand new, barely worn in truck (that is days old to me) on a brand new course, and not knowing how many issues I may experience along the way, how much I could trust the gauge readings, how much fuel would cost along the way, etc. ; I wanted to stay over half on the fuel gauge... So, I stopped in Roswell and topped off from barely over 3/4 of a tank. Stopped in Artesia and topped off again from about the same level... Topped off in Fort Stockton and then again in Fredericksburg. Average mpg on the EVIC read 19. 9mpg. My math showed it was actually 19. 9983mpg. Not too shabby!!!
On the trip back, I left San Antonio and drove to Fort Stockton, topped off and drove straight through to Albuquerque. Average on the EVIC reads 20. 2mpg. My math showed it to actually be 20. 2895mpg. ALMOST 21MPG!!! WITH AN ALMOST 8,000 POUND 4X4 TRUCK!!! AWESOME!!!
:-laf (the 8k# is merely a guess based upon the known weight of my 01, my 05 Hemi and my Father's 03 3500 CC 4X4 DRW... It's probably a little bit lighter... )
For the record, I submit the attached picture of the EVIC...
Also, this is a bone-stock 2010 2500 Crew Cab 4X4 with 3. 73s driving 265X75X17 BFG A/Ts. There has been NOTHING done to this truck to improve the trucks performance!!! I set the cruise at between 67 and 69mph the entire trip, except when the speed limit was lowered, as I drove through these smaller towns...
