Why is methanol preferred over denatured alcohol?

Is there a difference in the burn rate or maybe more corrosive?

The denatured is allot easer to find.



Inquiring minds want to know, well I do anyhow.

I could be wrong but I believe that Methanol is much colder in a liquid state than denatured alcohol, therefore the tempeture difference makes methanol a better choice.

Just a side note: for those of you running water/ meth at NHRA tracks, it is my understanding that your vehicle is supposed to be marked with a special number so the staff knows you're running it. This is because it burns so clearly that you or your rig may be on fire and they wouldn't know...

I am not real sure what you mean by colder. Do you mean the methonal has better ability to extract heat from the compressed air before the burn ?

Yes, I believe that is what he is saying. Methanol can cool some hot intake air pretty good. Methanol can be a wonderful thing when used properly.

I run regular ole' winshield washer fluid as Methanol doesn't work very well on the windshield. When I run on the dyno I just pump it out and replace it with a 50/50 mix.



Guess I better put a big (A) on the vent windows instead of the cool DTT stickers.



Seriously, I have lit Methanol off on the shop floor and you can't see the flames.
