My truck sits most of the time and the other day i went to haul hay and cranked it and it was running very rough. So today i changed fuel filter and had lots of algae in the bottom of filter bowl. What can i do about this problem? Any help greatly appreciated

Diesel shops, and some Napa's sell a Biocide that works well. Also, to prevent this in the future, keep the tank full if it sits very long.

Try a different supplier of fuel!.

I normally drive it between 20-40 miles on weekends only. I usually buy my fuel at shell. Never thought it would be a problem but guess so. Will have to try some of this biocide. Thanks

Any marine supply in your area should have just what you need to kill the algae and stabilize your fuel. Many boats sit for months at a time and this is a common problem. Like one of other folks mentioned, try to keep your tank topped off (especially in cold and damp conditions).

Change your fuel filter frequently and consider adding a 2 micron filter to insure clean fuel to the high pressure pump and injectors.

i use baldwin filters. Does anyone know what micron these are? Who makes 2 micron for my truck? 2006 model

You are more than likely using a 7 micron filter which is about the best you can get for the factory cannister. Fleetguard and Cat (I'm sure there are others) make a 2 micron spin on filter. Quite a few members use the 2 micron filter after the factory cannister by way of an auxiliary adapter. To insure adequate fuel volume and pressure, you should consider an after market lift pump such as FASS, Airdog or GDP. The kits include the hardware for a 2 micron spin on filter.

Search the archives and you will find all the info you need.

You might be getting contamination at vents on top of the fuel tank. The back one is especially prone to having water enter. Get about 18" of 1/4" fuel line for each vent.
