Is it legal to ride in a 5th wheel in transit?

Rear axle weight rating

For all of you guys over 50 that have pillar mounted guages in your truck.

Im ordering a set of pillar mounted guages for my truck. Now I have to make a decision (boy I hate that). What color for the face of the guage. Im hoping someone over 50 might have some insights as to which guage color (black, white, or silver) is the easiest to see during the daytime (darn glasses)

Thanks for you input,

TRat

Well, I'm closer to 50 than 40! (unfortunately)

I find a white face is easy to see and as a side benefit, it matches the other gages and helps it to look stock.

well I not 50. not even 40 yet but I would get the optix diprocal in white.

I have the isspro evo marine gauge and the optix is so much better to see night or day. have one autometer ev gauge also its not bad also, but I think I may replace the isspro for the optix.

I had isspro on a previous truck, the gage with the egt color coded for
normal, caution and danger , ranges,,,,

Now have a non marked egt gage,
Wish I had spent the money on the isspro,,,

Just can not train my mine to see the gage ( and it's mounted directly in front of me)... . With the color coded Isspro I seemed to now where the needle was without thinking about it... .

optix has similar feature also. Check out http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PRI_EGT_OPWH

I just put in Autometer Phantom II white face. They turn dark at night with white light through numbers. Looks great, easy to read. I am over 50 but not much.

I agree, dash pod, mine have black face and i have glasses and over 40

I also agree. I had pillar mounted gauges in our formerly owned '00 3500 and it was more difficult to read the gauges than dash mount gauges. The pillar mounts are too close to quickly focus on them after looking down the road. I'm over 60 and "burdened" with trifocals.

I am not quite 50, but under the blue sky of the planet earth 6 months is nothing.

I am using black DiProcal's with green LED's. These gauges are very attractive and match well with the dash. I can see them really well with my glasses on, but just barely with out. I can't read the regular dash gauges all that well without my glasses either. I wear progressive lenses. Those damn things give your neck a work out finding the right focal length, but I finally have a prescription that works well for me driving. It would be hopeless for me using bifocals.

Make sure that you get gauges where the needle is lighted (most are). That helps a ton at night. I have had both the bulb and LED types. With LED's background is darker and the numbers and needle are much better highlighted and easier to see. Some gauges you can order different color LED's to suit your prefernences.

There are also other styles out now that mount on top of the dash vice the pillar.

And even some digital gauges (kind of spendy) with big numbers and cool back lighting.

Add me to the list in favor of dash mount. I'm just shy of 65 and I found the dash mount requires less "refocus" when checking the temps, etc. while driving. Just a glance gives me the info I need. Plus, the Isspro are a good match to my factory gauges. As suggested in another thread the boost gauge is brighter than the rest so I replaced the bulb with a #161.

Sell the EZ and check into the Edge Juice/Attitude. I mounted the Attitude monitor on the steering column right in front of the dash guages on a friends 06 truck. It only blocks the ABS and check engine lights on the dash. Your always looking at the dash guages anyhow so the monitor is right in line. You can monitor 4 engine functions at one time. It is back lighted with different levels or can turn light off. It's plug and play meaning no cutting wires or splicing or finding power sources. Plus the Juice/Attitude has all kinds of safety features for towing. Like defuel for EGT's, Boost, transmission slip. It also can read codes and clear them, at least on the 06 trucks it can. You should check it out www.edgeproducts.com and see what you think.

I know the one we installed was just right for our towing situations.

50 and pretty blind. My Isspro white face with blue illumination really stand out both day and night.

EGT - Boost - Transmission are on the pillar.

Fuel pressure is most important and really nice in a monopod on the steering column.

After a while you will only notice a fixed needle position not really a reading. Abnormal or rapid changes in needle position seem to attract your eye to a variance. My boost was 0-20 at stock. Now I have a 0-45 very noticeable rapid movement on the boost gauge with the SPS 62 turbo installed.

Conclusion: Any gauge is better than none. Fairly simple installation process.

I'm kinda new at this but I've be running Diesel power since 1974. I'll turn 72 in June. So I guess I'm old enough for the over 50 opinion. Just bought my latest truck('07 quad cab 2500 long bed. 5. 9 Cummings of course. Why else would anybody buy a Dodge? ) When I first seen the Dodge gauges I thought, what ugly white gauges when they come out with a black background I'll get my new truck. In light of all the smog junk coming up I could't wait any longer. The first night I drove home "what a shock" they turn dark when the lights go on. I think thats the second smart thing Dodge ever done(the first and only other was to use Cummings engines ) So far I love the truck. I hope I can keep it. I've had to force a buy back on a 1999 and a 2002 both for steering problems. So far 1500 miles and every thing is just fine. I probably won't buy another until Ford gets smart and starts using Cummings engines. Stan.

I have a mixture of black face analog gauges. They look good in the daytime, and with the backlight at night. What makes the difference is the flourescent red needles on them. Very easy to see day or night. Three are in the pillar and one is under the dash. Waylon was right. If I had only known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself!

Happy Easter, Tom

Thanks for the reply. I was leaning toward the black face guages because I think they give a better stock look with my 02. But, I was afraid they might be too hard to see. I havent actually seen a guage installed, other than in a picture on the web. Since I dont think you really need to focus on the exact number, but just see the position of the needle, I think the black face will make sense for me.

These Westach guages are all I've ever had:

#ad

They have a green light for night time illumination, and with the black faces are a perfect match for the '02 dash guages and lights, and easy to see with my 70 year old eyes...

I'm not quite 50 yet, but rather than dwell on the color of your gauges, perhaps you should consider the location. I have both the pillar and 'top of the dash' mount. With the pillar, you have to completely refocus to read them. As far as the dash mounts, I can keep my eyes on the road while still monitoring the positions of the needles. Now, go for the illuminated red on black!
