I know this has been covered before but i wasnt totally happy with the answers, so im asking it again. My door speaker in the qc is blown, it sounds like hell. I called the dealer, and the speaker is 120$ from them. So i was thinking about some after market stuff. with the infinity system can i change the speakers? and if so what do you suggest? I drive fast, and like my music loud, so i have to do something. Let me know what everyone thinks!

I ripped out every inch of stereo in my truck and replaced it with an Alpine deck, MTX speakers in the doors and under the rear seat, and MTX amplifiers. Unbelievable sound for under $2k. This may be more stereo than you want (it will blur your vision  ) but the point is that you can upgrade your stereo quite well with aftermarket stuff that will be better and cheaper than what you'll get from Dodge.

I have a 98. 5 with the infinity system. RF speaker has been blown since around 24k miles. I thought it was a rattle in the door, after warrantee expired I relized if I turned off the radio, the rattle want away!

Anyway, the front will take most 6"X9" speakers, and the rear is something around 5 1/2" round. Check with crutchfield as to what fits. they may have the install guide on the web. In there books they don't list the infinity system in there replacment guide because of the factory amps.

Problem is the factory amps are mounted on the front speakers. I have a brand new set of speakers I removed from my 96 when I sold it. Next time I have an extra day I will try to mount the amps onto my aftermarket speakers and install them. Only problem is I been waiting for about 3 years for an extra day!

If its a rear speaker you are replacing, don't expect great sound from the back. I think the front amps also have a frequency cutoff network that only sends mid range to the rear speakers.

If its the front, replacing with aftermarket would be the cheepest route. Buy a pair of something like Jenson 6"X9" triaxles, and figure out how to mount the factory amps onto them. It would only take a handmade bracket mounted to the speakers.

If I recall, there was some heat sink compound on the back of the amps so the speaker body would help cool the amps. Not sure, its been almost 3 years since I looked at them.

NOTE: Buy some extra door panal mounting clips before you start. You will break a couple. and be carefull with the wire mounts onto the electric door switches, I broke mine last time I was in there.

Also while your in the door, I here the auto down window switch from the new trucks is an exact replacment for the older switches, if your into that kind of thing. There was a thread about 9 months ago with part numbers of what fit

Like stated the factory deck only has low level out and the amps are built into the speakers. So I am guessing if you replace the speaker with only a regular 6x9 speaker ( or what ever proper size ) it will not work, as there will be no amp.

On my last truck I had a apline installed. The moron installer hooked the high level out from the deck into the speaker inputs. It worked for about 2 months and the speakers were all blown out.

So my lession is do both at the same time, or just go to dodge and get another one. Less expensive solution. Does not blur vision, but sounds good at reasonable price. Less than $1K installed.

Alpine high powered deck, removeable faceplate

F&R speakers replaced with med quality ones

Powered 8" bazooka tube under rear seat.

Let the deck drive the main speakers and the tube provide the extra base. No external amps and stuff needed. Sounds fine even at fairly high levels, but looses it when cranked to the max. Good enough for freeway driving with windows down.

Also did not use all the mounting for the tube, so I can remove it if I need the extra room. Tell the installer you want the tube to be removeable. Made everything connectorized at no extra cost. with removeable faceplate and tube its easy to hide all visible parts.

I just bought a Pioneer head unit and a subwoofer and kept the stock speakers. It sounds great. I have a friend who took his infiniti speakers out of his Ram. I will see if he still has them and let you know. He owes me alot of favors, ill see if he will give me one

wow that would be great. I dont really want to spend that much money, i think the stock system goes loud enough, its just the noise from the back speaker. If he will give one up that would be a GREAT help. Thanks for your help. Email me if you dont want to post. -- email address removed --
