Allison/Chevy shift problem

My son's chevy trk would not shift into gear when he moved lever to drive. (duramax /allison 2001 vintage) When lever was moved to drive, no indicator light showed up on display panel, and truck would not move! He moved lever through positions and it finally went into gear. After driving about 2 miles, he moved lever to another position (3rd I believe) and the truck shifted to 3rd but would not then shift out of that gear untill he shut it off.



Does this sound familiar to anyone and what did it take to get it corrected?

Closest I have seen was dads ECM on his 96 Chevy fried and it went into limp mode and would not shift out of first.



Not the exact same issue, but could be. Another solution woudl be a for sale sign in the window and buy a real truck:-laf

Sounds like your truck is the problem. Replace it with a Dodge and that should fix it right up.

hahhah, when you ask a problem about a truck other than dodge on this site, i dont think youll ever get a steight forward answer. but id like to lend a helping hand of advice if im able.



my buddies dodge did something similar and ive heard of this happening with other tannys too. check the transmision sensors. i dont no how many the allison has. sometimes they go bad and the computer can no longer sense the position of the transmisson and will not shift. theyre cheap and easy. id start there. also check your grounds to any electrical components that deal with the trans.
