Kit for Chevy Cummins Conversion

What about an allison in my 98 ex cab?? I am real unhappy with the auto in it and not sure about spending the $ to rebuild and beef it up. would the allison work for pulling?? my big question is the computer set up, would it need to be tweeked or what. would my 3:55 rears work or would they also need changed. all help would be appreciated. .

There is a thread further down the page titled "allison trans" check it out...

There are quite a few people interested in this... you could try a search...

The Allison that would fit best and easiest would be an AT542 or AT545 (basically the same) I have the AT542 in my truck. This is a great transmission that holds up well... It bolts to an SAE#3 bellhousing... The only thing most people have against it is the no O/D... I have 3. 73's right now... 75 mph is 2800 rpm with 33" tires... I plan to put in 3. 23's... this will drop me down to 2400 rpm at 75 mph...

I'm not sure about the computer set up... I think you can get an electronic modulator for the AT545... I just use a TV cable...

Some people have considered using the 6 speed, but IMHO it is way to big to fit...

I like my trans...
