I just bought a set of takeoffs (probably off a 2007), wheels and tires. I used to have the steel wheels w/ chrome caps. This new set I bought are alloys, with chrome caps. Has anyone with these wheels removed the chrome caps and had the wheels polished? Is it worth the effort?

The wheels you acquired are most likely from a Laramie truck..... a chrome clad alloy wheel.

I was reluctant to chance the durability of the chrome cladded alloys on my ordered '07. When my truck arrived, my dealer gladly swapped them out with some polished forged alloys from a 2007 SLT truck..... at no charge. :-laf

I'd suspect it could be done, but it would be relatively labor intensive to get the glue off and then get the wheels polished up to the SLT style wheels.

Keep in touch and let us know how they turn out.

Powder coated chrome clad wheels.

You can remove the chrome cladding fairly easily as they are just glued on. A powder coat shop can transform them into a fine looking wheel.

thank you for the replies. They look great now but it looks like another thing to add to my to do list for when I get rich, famous and good looking. I'll settle for one out of three.
