Hey, well, I have nearly reached 30,000 on my 04. 5. Shifting has been awesome so far. Want to change the Manual transmission fluid. What is currently the best stuff? I did a search and some of the posts are from quite some time ago. Syncromesh, Redline, etc. were all listed. Also, how hard is it to change???? W/O having to look in owners manual, how many qts will I need? Thanks! I plan on stopping on the way home to get some. :D

I'm about ready too. I'm going with the original stuff, but from Autozone. Penzoil Syncromesh... 9. 5 pints/ 5 quarts. Same stuff as the Mopar, just a better price.

Someone else will have to chime in on that..... I have too good of a relationship with my dealers service dept. to mess with fluid changes... they take care of me, so I've never had to do one.

I am in need to change out the fluid in mine too. Same mileage as roper's truck. I am going to add fast coolers to the transmission when I change mine. As far as I know there is two aftermarket products that you can add to the transmission. Fast coolers and transmission filters. They don't make them combined though so you have to pick one or the other. I don't think they make a mag-hytec type of deep dish for the manual transmission. You can access the fluid by the PTO cover and change out the fluid that way. But you still need to pump some of it out. The fast cooler bolts to the PTO cover, no drilling just fits with the OEM holes.

**On edit, TDR had a article on this subject a couple of issues back. Not too sure what number.

If it's the same as the NV4500 you just take off the PTO cover (loosen it and let it drain, then take it all the way off), then use a CLEAN absorbent rag to sop up the remaining fluid in the bottom of the case. Reseal the cover, and fill through the fill bolt hole... . ;)

To drain the oil from the NV5600, you just remove the BOTTOM bolt from the PTO cover. It's a 14 mm bolt, all oil will drain from this bolt hole. The fill plug is on the drivers side of the trans, it's a 17mm hex head (you can't miss it). I went and bought a 17mm Allen wrench and cut 2 inches from the long side and I insert this into a 17mm socket, works great. I installed Amsoil 5w30 motor oil, as it meets Chrysler MS9224. As a side note, when re-installing the drain and fill plugs, the drain bolt gets torqued to 30lbs and the fill is 22lbs.
