I was just playing around with my Cummins Quick Check II and it says that my engine now has 2988. 0 hours on it. I have 86,xxx mi on the truck. That averages out to about only 29mph... :( I guess I need to get my foot into it a little more! :D

3,000 hours seems like a lot of hours to me. I wonder how many hours those "million mile" Dodge CTD's had on them. I know the average life to overhaul for our engines is approx. 400K, but is there an equivalent average "hours" to overhaul? I'm just curious... . :D

10,000 hrs is sort of the rule of thumb for marine diesels. At least that's when you start to worry. I've known Cats and Cummins that have gone 15,000 hr in fishing boats. And they work harder than your engine.

With tractors and heavy equipment we always figure one hour on the meter equals 50 miles. Lee's 10,000 hours comes out to 500k miles, sounds right to me.

I have almost 400 hours on mine at 13,000 miles. That works out to 32 MPH. Don't forget that ideling and warm-up puts time on the engine too.

Also, just having the key on (with engine not running) puts time on the hour meter.
