Bin searching for the last hr or so and haven't found symptums quite like mine, but some idears. I assumed at first it was a IP, as I am still on original. I know that I am overdue on this truck @ 195K just barely broken in miles. ;)

OK - I gotta ask - whats an APPS?

Wifey called with a dead truck today. Died goin' down the road. All of the dead VP stories that I can find say that they didn't start or sit and idle or ??? I haven't seen any mention of one dyeing going down the road. ???

My LP is old and my presure guage is dead. Been plannin' on fetchin' a new guage setup from Geno's all yr - just aint got there yet.

Saw one mention of the possibility of a LP dieing at just the right spot that wouldn't allow fuel to suck past. Maybe this sounds more like it?

She couldn't get it restarted right away - but by the time I got there I could start it and idle to 400rpm (with trouble) with no pedal - but if it aint gett'n no fuel - I wouldn't expect it to.

This is an all stock '99. There has been no signs of anything ammis ... . well ... a coons age. But like I said - my LP is old and my guage setup is dead. :eek:

I was also wondering if it could be a crank sensor. I replaced that onced upon a time - but that would quick cutout and then take back off. Never actually died and gave me time to get "a round tuit".

Are there any special toys needed to change out an IP? Directions come with reman?

Before you go off half cocked, first place to start would be to check the codes. Your 99 will need the assistance of a code reader, so go to your local autoparts store and borrow/rent their reader (if you don't already own one). Once you've pulled the codes you'll be able to tell what's going on ... and, yes, VP's do go out that way too, but let's hope that's not the problem!

Half cocked?

Loosened (pulled?) a plug on top of the fuel filter canister and did have some pressure there - but pretty sure it was weak. I would have to think that rules out the stuck LP.

Prolly be ordering a new LP and IP today. Maybe neighbor will come over on dinner break and run codes first?

Gotta get a guage kit from Genos ordered up too. The mechanicals get virated to pcs awfully quick! My firat one lasted quite a while, but the next two just shook apart right away. :{

Yeah, check the codes if you can.

As for chaging out the pumps, no issues. VP44 is simple and requires basic hand tools, and a pump puller is available from Industrial injection for about $30. I send one out on loaner if a guy needs one and have them send it back whenthey ship off the core VP44. Figure about 4 hours to swap VP44's.

As for the lift pump, you need to make a desision. You don't want to reinstall the same poor design. Need to look at an aftermarket option that is more reliable. I recommend the FASS kits as they rarely fail and have the benifit of the extra filtering.

Gotter goin' Sunday night. Runs perfect with new LP and IP. Haven't gotten a guage or Idiot light installed yet - but I'd like to think I have some margin of safety for a bit yet. LOL!

Ran so good that the wifey smoked the clutch in it this morning!

The shifter pulled out of the H pattern with the selector still in 5th - so there she sat at a stop sign in 5th. !!!

When she called I didn't think quick enough to tell her to just slip it in low range. Not knowing what gear it was in - I asked her if she couldn't just slip the clutch enough to get outta there? Well she tried desperately to git outta everyones way and she did get it down the street and into a driveway. It's gunna stink a while!

If I woulda just thought to tell her to throw it in LOW! :{

Update:

This would be a bit more relivent in a transmission thread - but it just updates my thread here...

We have had it pop out of fifth a little funny every once in a while for quite some time. Just once in a while you would have to let up on the shifter and then try to pop out of fith aggin - and all was fine. Never gave it much thought...

I have ran out of personal maintanance hours for the week - so I had to send the truck to a chumm that runs a transmission shop.

Anyway - it seems that there was an extree big worsher in the vacinity of the fifth gear and nut. I am not sure if it was between them? I had replaced the fifth gear and output shaft 3 yrs and 80K miles ago myself. I don't remember enough detail to know what was up with this other worsher - but it seems to have been bit loose and wore the threaded shaft down and wore the bore of this worsher out to the point where it was sticking out one side of the shaft and catching on occasion. ???

We deleted that worsher - but I had to make a much thicker one to be able to jump over the worn section of the shaft.

This was not the cupped worsher either - that is still there.

Either way - take it fer what it's worth.

Another way to go with your fuel system if you don't want to go with the FASS is the Big Line Kit from Vulcan. It's a really good price and I haven't had any FP issues and it moves the LP to the frame. Just a thought.
