Had to run to Grass Valley this morning. On a long grade leaving Penn Valley a newer Ford pulled by me about 70 mph. Slowly caught him and he just kept going a little faster. After about 15 seconds he backed off. I was running about 42lbs of boost and egt was at 1000. I rolled it back down and he came by me and motioned for me to pull over. We stopped and he asked me what my egt was. I told him it was about a thousand. He said his gauge was pegged. I didn't ask him how high it went. Told him I had a hybrid turbo, didn't tell him I had a Bht3b under it. Said he had a chip and did 370 hp. Told him I didn't know what a chip was and thought I was around 300. We went on our seperate ways. I will probably go to go to hell for lying, but the puzzled look on the guys face was worth it. It sure is nice to have the old girl back on the road.

. . oh dang I can't wait - it'll be about a year before I can post stories like those... . but I know it'll be worth the wait... .

Your killing me

Hey good job Ron I am glad you have it back on the road. Now this part about almost stock has me rolling on the floor. Heck mine is almost stock right ;) . :-laf :-laf I cant wait to get mine back on the road. I sure miss listening to the turbo spool up.

My head should be here sometime next week. Once I get it back together then the B. U. S. T project will go into full effect. Well I should say once the mechanic gets it back together. I cant wait to see temps like you have Ron.

The other guy was real friendly. I don't know whether he was new to the truck, or new to the upgrades. But he acted like he couldn't figue it out. I hope he didn't just get the stuff at Browns Valley RV. He'll tell Blaine about the old ugly Dodge that out pulled him on the hill. Blaine will probably play with my next dyno readings and I'll spend the next 6 months trying to figure out why I'm making less hp than I was with the old hx35. Guy in Ford was about 60 or so. Man those things are big. My truck looked kind of wimpy next to it. This is about the best day I have had in a long time. I am even going to post my first :) .

Ron,

When I was driving a flatbed for a living, we always had to tarp our load. Often there would be 3 or 4 of us from the same company picking up the same loads, for the same destination. We'd all help tarp each others load, and we'd be ready to roll much quicker.

Taking 4'x8'x3" industrial foam from Penn to Ohio one trip. Our tarped load looked no different than a load of tarped plywood. Needless to say, we were able to fly uphill. One of the other drivers was on the CB with a guy that just got his doors blown off. He wanted to know how we could go so fast hauling lumber. Our guy told him that we had switched the injector lines on #3 & #5 cylinders. Went on for about 10 minutes explaining the engineering "theory" behind the increased HP. I couldn't believe he was taking the hook for so long.

We dropped our load and went our seperate ways. About 4 days later, coming back across Penn. I heard the discussion being played out by different folks. I wonder how long it took that guy to get his rig started after he switched his lines??

Reminds me of when I used to ride with my dad in a semi he used to drive. It was an old freightshaker cabover with a 8V92 detroit with optional turbo. That truck would scream. One day we passed a pete. The owner complained on the CB "that old 318 just passed this 425 cat, going to complain to the shop!" My dad never said a word, just grinned and grabbed another gear.

Ron, I'm glad to hear your old truck is back up and running. It is surely enjoyable to have an old truck that runs good. I wish my pyro readings were like that. I hope Mr Murphey went to visit someone else for a while, just not me! :D I am disappointed that you won't be sending me your twin turbo kit. :-laf

Ron your killing me. I get excited when I get the small details figured out. After looking at your pictures, I feel small.

I think it was Copernicus who said, ( very loose quote :) "I stood on the shoulders of the great men before me to accomplish what I did". That will be my thoughts once I get my truck figured out.

Keep it up!

I have to admit, I never turn down a chance to pull someones leg like that. Quite honestly I didn't want to try and outrun him, I was hoping that if he ran his boost up he would get hotter than me. There are alot of good running blue ovals around here. I was listening to a couple of guys talking about how much boost they could put out before they pegged their pyro. A steady 40 seemed to be the answer. Mine runs fine egt wise at 40 psi but the water temp went from 180 to 195 in about 20 seconds. So I will have to watch that. Once I get the head torqued for the last time I am going to ask KickinY2k if he can meet me on that same grade. His truck is running at 420. If I can stay with him, maybe next time I'll try a real head to head instead of being sneaky. I have to rotate my tires before I do any more of this foolishness. My cab vibrates so bad that I looked in my rear view mirror a couple of days ago and it looked like there was one of those double decker buses that you see in England right on my bumper. As I slowed down to let him get by the image got smaller and smaller and finally turned into one of those new Scion van things.
