Hi guys,
Thanks for the responses. I think I will be putting a "kill" swith in. I did get the ignition switch working... I had to take a side cover off and bend a contact plate back into place(good thing I bought those torx sockets a few months back!)and dash lights are back to normal. I took it by a Dodge dealer's body shop, and it's estimated at about $1200 bucks. I was having a good day on Sunday too... I had finished putting a straight pipe in,and that afternoon I bought a set of Y2K alloys, which were still sitting in the bed even after these guys did thier vandal job, whew! I got lucky.

Heres a point to consider. Truck is expensive and babied. All these alarms kill switches, tracking devises are alright, but. Full coverage is a safe bet. I wanted Lo Jack but this option is $600, deductiable is $500 personally I don't want the truck back if it is stolen. More then likley they won't baby it like I do, or cause considerable wear and tear that a insurance company won't compensate you for unless they can see it. Therefore, if Mr. Thief takes it please don't bring it back or let me catch him.

I agree with that. If someone does manage to steal mine I'm not sure that I want it back after it gets thrashed. The whole idea behind the kill switches is to keep it from being stolen in the first place. I've put a lot of work into this truck so I would like to keep it.

One thing to keep in mind is to remember that you have these switches. I managed to embarass myself one time with the fuel solenoid kill switch. I accidently turned it off when I stopped for fuel in Redding. It wouldn't start after filling up. After a lot of messing around I called my wife in Eureka to tell her I was broke down in Redding. THEN it dawned on me to check the kill switch. Flipped it and it started right up. So then I had to call the smarter one in the family and tell her that the kill switch works just fine and I would be home shortly. Naturally, she reminds me of that little episode whenever we have company.

This gets a bit off-topic, but I'm wanting to add a fuel solenoid cutoff switch to my rig to use when changing the oil. It would be nice to crank over several times to build oil pressure before firing up right after an oil change.

I think insurance companys take fore ever to pay off when your truck is stolen and not recovered.
Kinda like collecting life insurance without a body!

Vaughn,

That's what I installed the switch for in the first place. Then I realized that it makes a pretty good kill switch. After I change the oil or have parked it for some time, I always crank it with the fuel killed to get some oil flowing. Now, I just turn it off when I park so it works as a kill switch. The switch is parked as PL for pre lub and is right there in plain site. The other kill switch is hidden.

Hey guys, get a high amperage normally open relay and mount it under the dash. Cut the wire going to the fuel soleniod fuse and run it through the normally open contacts. Cut the wire on the cigarette lighter and wire each end to the relay's coil. Then when you want your truck to start, push the cigarette lighter in and then the relay's coil will energize and close the contacts. With contacts closed, fuel soleniod will energize. The cigarette lighter will never glow or even get warm because the relay's coil doesn't pull enough amps. I have done this for several of my friends and it works fine.

The fuel kill switch was covered in a recent TDR although I couldn't tell you which one. This idea was thought to be an alternative to the pre luber since you could turn the engine over to get the oil pressure up prior to lighting off. I like the nuetral safety switch idea although I have a stick. It occured to me that I could install a switch inline with the clutch pedal switch for the same effect. I plan to investigate this further even though it won't make more horsepower, it still has some viability.
