If the sales people would have been easier to deal with, I'd be driving a new one now. I miss having leather, and would love to have a sport and 4 wheel disc brakes. I was willing to go $7,500 trade difference, instead of telling me they couldn't do it, they tried to convince me to pay more and give me all the reasons why I should. I told them my budget from the get go. I wish sales people where easier to deal with, I spent about 4 hours there.

I may try again after harvest, I've heard alot of good from a dealer in Denver City. Don't need one, love my truck, but kinda want one.

35,900 miles and counting

I just went through the same thing down here. I went to two different dealerships and had to get up and walk out of both of them. After driving the truck and looking it over, I told the salesman I would give him 30,000 not the 34,600 that was on the sticker. He said no problem. When it came down to the numbers he said they could not go below MSRP. See ya. I've talked to a couple of out of state dealerships and have gotten some great prices so I guess I'm flying to pick up my new truck, when I can get it.

I was willing to go $7,500 trade difference
That sounds at least semi-reasonable to me...
(I say "semi" because I'm not qualified to give a real opinion on what the price should be)
Check the preferred dealer links on this web page - I seem to recall that two in OK price at invoice, one is even below I think. Stick your rig in the paper, see if you get any bites. If you changed the oil and didn't beat the hell out of it, I'd wager there is someone out there who wants a new rig, can't quite afford, and your's is not even fully broken in yet...

gitchesum,

I probably could name the dealers you went to cause I tried there too. Then I went to Texas and bought my truck. Henson Dodge in Madisonville Tx was where I got mine. $200 over invoice = about $4000 under MSRP. Had invoice prices off the internet and they showed me theirs was below that. No pressure, no mind games, tell em' what ya want and if they don't have it they will find it, add $200 to it and that's your price. Took delivery in Feb. of 99' and been grinnin' ever since.

They wanted like $12,000 to $13,000 difference, and they gave me all the reasons that that was fair. I told them $7,000 and later went up to $7,500. A lot of farmers out here are trading every year for about $7,000 difference, and they put on more miles than I do. This was staying with a 2001 and upgrading to leather and sport. I thought it was fair, can't say for sure, but that was my budget. Might just put leather in mine, don't know.

Does your dealer BOMB?? Mine does. Bossier Country Dodge Chrysler. Sells @ invoice. Will fax it to you. Neat folks. 1 800 BOSSIER. Talk to Johnny Bennett (Sales Mangler) They are on I 45 in Fairfield, Texas. They will send a car after you if you want to fly in. Your new truck will be sitting there, full of fuel and the deal will be just like they said it would. AND, I got them set up as a BD dealer. I send all my RV customers there. Tell 'em I sent you... ... ...

Think I'll just keep my truck for now and add leather. What will it be worth after 3 years and 150,000 miles?

We went to Melton Sales in Melton, OK. We drove from Memphis, TN, because the dealers in Memphis were rather unspectacular. Melton had the truck we wanted in stock, and were an amazing bunch. I sometimes forget the generous and friendly people who live "outside" of the city. Not only were they friendly, but we got the truck for below invoice. I give 5 stars to Melton Sales, 4 stars for Graceland Dodge in Memphis, TN, and 1 star for Covington Pike Dodge. 1 star is for dealers that won't return your phone calls, even when you say your are ready to order a truck.

TDR has Melton Sales in their recommended list of dealers. http://www.meltonsales.com You can even view their truck inventory online, WITH invoices included.

Visited Melton Sales web site, that's where I'm getting my next truck, too cool. I called and asked about the wholesale value of my truck, $25,000 to $27,000. The truck I want is around $32,000, it would work. If he had one in stock exactly like I wanted, I think I would do it.

I'm going to go look at some leather that a shop put in a truck, if I like it, I'm going to keep my truck and just put in some leather. If not, I'll order a truck, sounds simple don't it. Maybe somebody out here would be interested in my truck at wholesale.

I purchased my 98. 5 from Bonham Chrysler/Dodge in Bonham Texas after shopping the dealers in Dallas. I talked to a salesman on the phone, talked prices, drove there, picked the one I wanted off of the lot, negotiated a price with no pressure, no manager coming out to tell me I was being unreasonable. Then, when I couldn't get good service in Dallas, took it there for a repair and even got a free oil change for the trouble. I'll go there for my next truck whithout even calling a Dallas dealer.

Not to sound like a broken record, but Melton is incredible. I had gone through the BS twice with Dodge dealers and Mercedes dealers and to see Melton was a great breath of fresh air. I really wouldn't mind paying over invoice, given the great attitude at Melton. I didn't feel like a gold bar walking around in a showroom. If you do buy from them, tell them the Hartwig/Cummins truck from Collierville, TN is perfect!

My local Dodge dealer,Bellingham Chrysler has been very easy to work with. I needed a new ETH. they didnt have one in stock. They did a locate and found 6 in the area. But none of them would trade. The salesman gave me the phone# of the dealers!! #ad
I purchased mine from Moore Dodge in Walla Walla Washington. They were very proffesional and easy to work with. I would reccomend eather dealer to anyone out there that needs a no hassle deal.

I know the bug very well, but the depriciation sucks. I hate to admit this, but I don't care for what DC did to the current new models and nothing has turned me on. However, this weekend I went by a dealer and looked at their used trucks and found a real nice '97 12v(obviously) 4x4 clubcab SLT longbed 5spd with only 32k miles. Hmmm... what Piers could do to this truck! #ad

If you are in the MD,DE,VA area I would contact Kenny or Michael at Mussleman's Dodge.

The are a no BS dealership with an outstanding truck allocation. Mention TDR when you speak to them. They will take care of you and order a truck at or below invoice.

If you don't like the salesman wait until you have to deal with the finance man!
When looking for my truck I found 96 slt reg cab 5 spd,2wd took on 2 salesman(boys)in 6'cubicle. Suggested manufactures price was 26,000 tis dealer would put on "dealer ad ons/markups $2000 for diesel,$1000 for club cab or 4x4. So they wanted 28,000 for this truck I offered 22,000, they just about went into cardiac arrest. the idea at this dealer was to mark it up then let you talk them down to manufactures suggested price. They told me they paid 25,000 for it could't sell any cheaper than 26,000.
Thank goodness because I found the Mule a couple months later at another dealer in town that didn't put the dealer markups on the window. I talked to salesman there several times during one week after trying to sell me a other diesels we finally came to terms on the Mule.
Forgot to send the "boys" a Thank You card for not accepting my fair offer.
