I'm replacing my CD player, and wondering which is better... Alpine or Pioneer? I have a 6 disc CD changer under the back seat and I'm tired of not being able to change CDs while going down the road (I never remember to swap them beforehand; so the same CDs have been in there for two years). I'm putting in a CD player, and will use a player compatible with the changer (Alpine) if I hear they're quality units. A really nice Alpine is about twice as much as a Pioneer though. BTW: the Chrysler Infinity sound system appears to be built by Alpine. I may take the changer out completely and just put in a really good radio/CD unit.

I put a 12 disc Alpine AInet changer under the drivers seat. I don't have a casette deck in dash... I have the Alpine controller with eq... I think its a 550 model... Works great, had emergency broadcast scan and weather alert scan.

I am thinking of adding GPS in conjunction with my laptop... the laptop has DVD so I can watch movies. All I need to do is get the Alpine 5. 1 surround hooked into that and let someone else drive... NOT!

Hey Scott - which GPS system are you looking at. I have looked at the one from DeLorme. It include the GPS receiver, Streetmap 7. 0, and the cord to power it from the Keyboard input. I would be interested in any comments you have on this.
We probably should start a different thread though, if you have any info. Thanks

I have a Alpine 3 disk in-dash changer, real happy with it. The cartridges are small enough to fit in the arm rest (I usually have about 4 in there). I chose this unit to save space under the seats. http://www.alpine1.com/

Mark, I may be interested in your cd unit, if you gonna get rid of it. I have the radio that takes the cd chgr, is this the style you got? (plugs in the back(??))

All,

Bought a Pioneer DEH-P76DH, mostly because of most bang for the buck. Although afer reading about the front loading 3-CD changer am contemplating calling around (didn't know there was such a thing).

Anyone know what the seperate (not in harness) blue/black wire is that plugs into the back of the OEM radio? With the new radio it's going nowhere.

I bought a Chrysler-IPBus adapter so I could wire to the new (IPBused) radio directly, and was told the radio IPBus harness to Chrysler-IPBus adapted would wire one-to-one color-to-color. Well, of-course there are three extra wires. A blue, brown, and orange/white. I'm reasonably sure the blue and brown are grounds (true?) since the oem harness included the ground and the pioneer has the grounds split out of the IPBus, but I have no idea what the orange/white is for. Judging from it's location and orange being for the radio lighting I think it may be for lighting, and am contemplating soldering it with the orange. But there is already an orange-to-orange so I am doubting my guess.

Other than the grounds the only wire not in use from the pioneer IPBus is a blue/white for "system control of power amp or power antenna", neither of which I have. I doubt the orange/white goes with the blue/white but maybe it does since there the only wires left.

Since I don't want to fry the whole works I am looking for someone who knows beforehand.

Ben,

You may have a deal. Depends if I put my old unit in my wifes Durango or not. My old Infinity is a Tape/Equalizer/Stereo with built in controls for the CD changer of-course. I have to see if I can fit it in the Durango and mount the CD changer where it's accessible from the drivers seat of the Durango. If not I'll have a stereo and CD changer for sale.

Mark;

I hesitate to count the numbers of car/truck stereos that I have installed in the past 10 years... . it is indeed many.

Without a wiring diagram that came with the stereo at my disposal here, I can only offer you this advice;

These wires MAY be the speaker returns (-). If you have an ohmeter, check to see if there is a connection from the (-) side of your speakers to the trucks' chassis ground. Often times, they isolate the speaker grounds from the chassis grounds for the power amplifier to be happy. If this is indeed what they have done, exercise a GREAT deal of caution just connecting them to the chassis ground!
